Euro Mount

Looks good eyeguy! Your son will remember that hunt well! I like the color of the wood you used.

Nice. How did you bleach the skull? I'd like to do one of these myself.

Donbo, bleach will do fine, but the longer you bleach... the more the skull weakens. Best thing is to go to your favorite salon or hair stylist whistle(or your wifesgrin) and get a bottle of peroxide. Apply it like a paste to the skull with an old tooth brush, let dry and rinse. The skull will turn out a brilliant white without weakening! You can control where it goes easier this way too. A bleach dip will often get on the burrs and discolor them. A "salon grade" peroxide is FAR more potent that the stuff you gargle with so dont get the 2 confused.

Good luck!

Thx, I just do it in the sink in a large pan. I add a cup or so of bleech and use a big spoon and just drip it all over the skull. Then I rinse and let it dry and repeat a couple times. If you plan to boil one use a half cup of Lowrys Seasoning in the kettle. Smells good and the Mrs won't smack you up side the head. And poke the eyeballs with a knife first. The first one I did years ago I poppped one just after I took out of the hot water. Those eye juices burn when they hit your skin! LOL

They make artificial skulls that either the skull plate OR sheds can be attached to. Any of you wanting a euro mount who STILL HAVE the real head attached, I would advise you to keep and boil or beetle the real head. The artificials look good as a last resort like Pinusbank needs... but id stick with the real skull if able.

Boiling your owns skull is easy, but it takes time and it often takes a tough stomach.

Heres an example of a "shed skull" or a full "camo skull" if thats what youre into. Your taxidermist can order these for you or you can find them through taxidermy suppliers yourself for between$30 and $65 dollars.

I'm another jumper-on...Got a 10 point I found this year and the head was caked. I'm surprised the head wasn't torn into, the body was but the head was just caked. I'm talking dried down, eyes gone. So I have basically a rough carpet of skin and hair to remove and I don't want to hack the skull up with a utility knife. I also don't want the stink in the house. I'm hoping to find someone with a turkey fryer to loan and get to boiling, but we'll have to see. Any tips you guys have are much appreciated.
