The way that some of these lakes ice didn't budge, and the last warm day is today, I'll be out on Sunday catching bluegills and crappies!!! I'm pretty darn pumped up!

Anyone else have any on ice predictions?

I think some smaller, shallower lakes are nearly ready to go...by the weekend for sure considering the temp drop we are going to have the next few days. Some lakes popped back open over the warm stretch and others held, and the ones that held need a couple more nights of sub 25 degrees and it's game on!

I think Dec 10 is late. I'm not saying all metro lakes will be frozen but I would guess within an hour of the metro we'll be able to find ice on or before the 8th. I consider an hour to be drivable for a first outing.

Wow, you guys in the cities are soft - hahaha. Up here we walk through the wood for a mile (all up hill), then walk out on smaller lakes with 1-2" if good clear ice...best fishing of the year is early ice - period. Their feed bags are on! Once there is 3" of clear ice were taking ATV's.

With water temps what they are I should be able to start sometime late next week.

Funny. We don't have any lakes with a mile of woods around them down here. Enjoy those walks, wish I could.

Ha, bbfenatic I just got a good laugh. It reminds me of last year when i walked out on a lake just north of DL, seeing a group of guys fishing, I figured there must have been plenty of ice. When I got out there I grabbed the auger out of the sled and a guy yelled over and said i wouldnt need that. Well after punching the first hole in 1 1/2-2" of ice i new what he meant. Needless to say i loaded up and got out of there being one of those "soft city slickers".

I hope you guys have a great season and I sure wish I was still living up there fishing in your neck of the woods.

I would be real cautious with the warm temps predicated for the weekend. 40's around the Duluth area until Tuesday when she drops back down. BC

Been out about 5 times now, they are aggressive, earliest, best start to a season yet. Some pics from a couple of the trips out, one lake they were golden crappies, gold and black, not as much green like we are used to.

Great to hear from you, hope all is well with your new job down there! Too bad you had to leave, this is the earliest start I have had in many, many years and they are on fire in all the usual hot spots and some new lakes as well.
