It is a must buy. Especially when ice is thick. We lay our house right on the ice it is an ice castle and has been throw thaws and freezes never stock to ice. If you auger and push the slush left over from not going into the slush bucket we pack it in the sides and put sleeves in no air leaks!! Great way to keep the house nice and toasty!

Good to hear Minnetonkaman. I was wondering the same thing. When I looked at them though up in Milaca they were getting 25 bucks (I think or 40) seem pretty easy to make. What I am going to do is take a rubbermaid tote and just cut a hole in the bottom and then cut the top of a 5 gallon bucket and hot glue the top inside the tote which is the same thing. At least it seems that way too me.

Hot glue won't hold. You'd be better off cutting the hole in your bucket an inch or two smaller than the bottom circumference so that there is a lip on the bottom of your bucket and then drilling holes into the lip and tote, then bolting the bucket bottom to the tote. If you choose to try this route, take some pics and post them when you're done.

If your house has the Catch Covers go with one of their slush boxes. I picked one up at the St. Paul ice show a few years ago for a pretty good price. I tried the modified storage container and it does not preform as well as you think it would. The Catch Cover product works great and can take a beating.

Bought the slush box-it worked Ok. I also have found that lowering the house approx. half way down and drilling the holes without the box works pretty good, minimal ice chips and slush on the floor.

After drilling the holes I go out and spread the ice pile, lower the house and put in the inserts.

Only when the ice is very thick do I use the box.

I have one but they are kinda of a pain in the butt.

Instead of using it, I just drill my holes with the shack all the way up. Then I lower the shack onto the ice mounds, insert hole sleeves, then flush the holes in reverse.

It's much faster and easier than moving the tub around and dumping it out after every hole or two.

I use a short extension early, and a long one later.

-Hope this helps!
