I love my showdown. SUPER easy to use, great battery life, and very accurate.

You'll find on this topic that there are a lot of different opinions out there. Go take a look at them and see which one you like and has the features you are looking for. The best one is the one you like the most...

I have a troller and a Vex, best thing about my Marcum Troller and their new LX-6,7,9 is "no noise"! I am always on the move and fish in my one man portable and hate the noise from the Vex units and older models of the Marcums so between the two I'd choose the Showdown. Coming up on season 3 with my troller and I love it for the small size, just stuff it in my back pack along with other gear, runs on AA batteries, gives me the depth with digital display instantly and does a fine job marking the fish. If I go to LOW in a perm I take the Vex, but otherwise it stays in storage.

ShowDowns are nice units ... small footprint inside your fish house, great battery life, easy to use and understand. If you go with a ShowDown you should strongly consider the ShowDown Dual Beam model, the narrow beam is a nice feature which you'll probably use half the time or more. Some guys are really hung up on having a traditional flasher, but for those who aren't, the ShowDown is a great option.

LX-5s are great units, I personally really like the display on them.

You can check them all out, including pricing, HERE if you want ....

I already have a Vex that my dad bought when I was maybe 5 years old. Works well. Noisy.

The fact that Marcums are made in my home state appeals to me a lot.

The Showdown is too cool. If I had even just a little more spare cash, I would buy one now.

I've got a LX5 and a Showdown 5.6 single beam, I like both but find myself grabbing the Showdown more often than not when I'm headed out the door, battery life is great and I feel you get a little better target separation with the Showdown.

If I had to do it again, I would get the dual beam and not even think twice about it. Last spring we were fishing Whitefish over 80 feet of water, fish were suspended in about 40 - 60 feet with a lot of cisco's, I tried everything to get the Showdown to show my jig but the screen was just too ' busy ' with targets, I feel if I had the dual beam I could have weeded out a lot of returns and fished just fine with the Showdown, the LX5 worked very well and had no problems with the cisco's, I was able to filter most of them out and see my jig, no problem at all.

I really like the showdown concept, but tend to find the LX5 a better all around fishing tool. I don't like a couple minor limitations regarding the zoom capabilities of the Showdown 5.6; you're stuck with a single zoom range AND you loose the ability to view the entire water column. The only way I'd see the showdown as a better choice would be if you intended to fish over 160'.

I've heard rumors of a new showdown for next year that will be a game changer for that line of sonar.

thanks for all the input guys. the showdown sounds even more appealing now!

I love my Showdown. My buddies are all Vex guys, but I wouldn't trade my SD for all of them. Easy to use, read, and long battery life. I can cancel out interference quickly. Love it.
