MJ1657
I left a house like you're talking about out for a winter. Left it up all the time but I was out spearing almost everyday.
merkman
I would not leave one out in the metro. But I have left one out all winter just north of the metro.
finnedfakes
My portables consist of a couple of hub styles and one older cabin type. I generally dont leave those out overnight because I worry about the weather or, If Im spearing downstate, Vandalism. If I had one of those wooden folding , canvas types, I would probably leave it out since I worry about the weather more than anything. Chumba
Left my hub out overnight last year. Wind picked up and changed directions. The neighbors were nice enough to put everything in neat pile for me the next morning. I learned my lesson.
ninakawawa
no reason to lock a portable. they will just cut the canvas to get inside.
MJ1657
no reason to lock a portable. they will just cut the canvas to get inside. Exactly. I don't lock my perm. They will just destroy it to get in
pikestabber
I don't lock my perm. They will just destroy it to get in When I first started spearing as a boy, my grandfather always told me that locks are there to keep honest people honest... Granted, if someone really wants to get in, they will. If you have a lock, however, I think you keep a lot of curiosity at bay and at least stand a chance of someone's conscience getting the better of them. merkman
I take everything out of the house, put a real cheap lock on the outside and call it good.I am sure sometimes it keeps people from using my fish house as an outhouse, but as far as the crooks go it's a spear shack for gosh sake.. tip it on its side and walk in the hole on the bottom... No mater what you do a spearshack ain't gonna be secure...
Spike76
I used to always leave my spears and decoys out every night, but then they put slot limits on the lake and now I have to go down the road a few miles to another lake without slot limits. When you can look out the kitchen and see your house it was pretty safe. Now I don't leave them out over night. I always lock it because I don't want any kids falling in the spear hole. hawkeye43
It would suck if someone did break into a spear house and then fell into the hole and died. I would hate to make that call. Then again maybe the spear hole should be in front of the door.
