Anyone with a new 6.0 engine

Recommended Posts

Sorry to say but no still looking at the 15 at the maximum on miliage. That is a question i'm dealing with also. SPend the exta 8k for diesel? For 18-19mpg and let alone higher diesel fuel cost? But there is a night in day difference in trucks though. Going from a diesel to a gutless wonder will be hard.

the ecoboost is fine until you hook something to it and then the milleae goes in the crapper. I have an 07 cumminings and with the chip and programmer i get an average of 22 to 24 with it empty and then when pulling the 3 stall horse trailer I get an average of 15 to 17.

Is the 6 liter from Chevy really that gutless. I can understand the fuel part but with that should come power

I don't understand why some people get so worked up with Ecoboost towing mileage. I get 25% better mileage empty vs my old V8's (20+ mpg vs 16), 25% better towing 2,000# or lighter (16mpg vs 12), and the same towing a heavy load (10mpg). The best part is I am doing it with way more HP and torque, but to get that you need to burn some fuel (you are spinning 2 turbos, afterall).

I tow about 10% of my total milage, so 90% of the time, I am 25% ahead of the game mileage-wise, and always ahead on power.

I love it when you ecoboost guys say your saving money on gas. Lets say you drive 20k miles a year and gas cost $4 gallon, you would only save around $1000 in gas a year compared to some of the other V8's (also add the fact you should probably use premium with the ecoboost achieve max MPG).

I willing to bet you paid more than few thousand dollars more for the NEW ecoboost, gonna take a few years and LOTS of miles to offset set the premium in price you paid for it, if your only saving a $1k a year.

I am not knocking the ecoboost, but your really not "ahead of the game" in the grand scheme of things, but hey you get to say you have a brand new truck.

all used trucks prices are insanely high right now, trust me I spent the last year and half shopping up until a few months ago.

In the end as far as money is concerned, the out of pocket cost on the ecoboost was just too much of a price increase to consider. I didn't think the benefits were significant enough in savings to consider it.

Its not a bad truck, but I am simply just trying to say you really don't save any money buying one and good luck finding one used.

According to Kelly Blue Book, ecoboost is a $2000 MSRP option on a 2013 supercab F150 XLT.

If you are hauling cows or a bobcat all day, probably not the best choice. If you are towing a boat once a week, maybe that's different.

Wouldn't the Ford 6.2L compete with the Chevy 6.0L? I know the tuning on the F150 is comparable to a Chevy 1500 6.2L but the F250/350 SD with the new 6.2L has numbers similar to the Chevy 6.0HD. That would be a better comparison than Ecoboost.

Your talking a HD gas vs diesel. Not a high performance light/medium duty engine. All those fancy turbos and oil coolers will die eventually. what truck at 175k with all that first generation technology will be issue free after pulling frequently?

Lip Ripper,

A lot of people tow way more than 10% of the time. Our work chevy has a trailer behind it everyday of the week. So depending on the situation, an Ecoboost can be a terrible choice.

I don't know how it could be a "terrible" choice. More tq and hp than the V8, equal mileage.

Ecoboost option was $750 on my 2011. I do about 30k/yr, saving $1300 the first year on fuel.

In any case, this is about the 6.0. I know 2 people with this new motor and both love the power, hate the mileage. 15 on a good day, 12 when towing.

Because if you are getting 10 mpg towing a heavy load, I would want nothing to do with that. Our work trailer goes 3,000-3500 lbs depending on the job, and pulling it with our chevy we will get around 13-14 mpg. Remember, I'm not talking about towing a trailer once a week here, it pretty much never leaves the truck.

To me that is the difference between the weekend towing rig and the work rig, During the FT season my horse trailer hardly ever comes off the truck. For the guy pulling the boat up to the cabin a truck like the ecoboost is probably the right choice for those of us who tow like we do you have to have the diesel. Mine is almost 450,000 miles on it and all but maybe that 50,000 is with a three horse trailer and ponies and dogs in it.

tonkapat, somehow yes, even the 6.0 diesel is a benefit with resale. Although not to me.

In all honesty, as bad as I dont like the 6.0 diesel engine, some people have no problems with theirs. I talk to people several times a day regarding Ford diesels, and I get told more times then then I would expect that it is by far their favorite diesel engine. I dont see it, but some people are satisfied with it.

In my opinion, the 6.0, is better then the 6.4 by a long shot. Sure glad there were only a few years of the 6.4's.
