harvey lee
My wife recieved many apples from a friend and we can only eat so many pies and apple sauce. So, I cranked up the dehydrator and did approx 50 apples.I cored and sliced the apples, cut them in half and then added a small amount of sugar and cinnamon. Now, these are a real treat.Gal that gave her the apples also had many pears, a bit more work to get ready for the dehydrator but man they come out of there and taste about as good as any candy and good for you. Could not believe how well the pears tasted as this is the first time we have done pears.
pushbutton
I think pears are my favorite also. I have a couple standard/non grated trees that are borderline wild and trying to stay on top of the large shrub canopy growing below. Have no clue what they are, they are not big, nor pretty, but they sure do taste good. Part of the fun every year is throwing sticks 30 ft into the air at them to try to knock down the fruit
CigarGuy
Just read this to my wife and she is interested in trying pears, how do you it in the dehydrating? Thanks...
OnAFly
I'm going to have to try this. My neighbor has an apple tree and is always offering tons of apples in the fall. How long do these things last in their dehydrated state, at room temp? Is freezing an option?
itchmesir
We did the exact same with a ton of apples this year... also made applesauce.. which is a pita

delcecchi
If you are doing a bunch, get one of those "apple peeler slicers" that you crank. They are great and well worth the price (unless you have crummy lumpy apples like mine)
OnAFly
I've got something even better than having one of those...I have a neighbor with one! I would definitely have to borrow it for one of those jobs. I'm not peeling apples for hours.
