In the Market for a Trail Camera

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for recommendations on a trail camera. I don't want to go overboard on price (keeping it under $200). After some research I've narrowed it down to Bushnell Trophy Cam (several different models), Moultrie Game Spy M-80XT, or Wildgame Innovations Micro Red 8. If anyone owns any of these cams and wants to make a recommendation I would appreciate your input. If anyone wants to recommend something different I'm open to that as well. Pros and cons would be helpful. My list above has fairly good reviews on various websites, yet it looks like some can be junk right out of the box.

M-80 black flash. Awsome pictures. Works great. bought 4 at one time and got a free shipping deal. I have a brand new one still in the plastic and never opened, if interested! Can e-mail me direct at jeffsandy57@yahoo.com and I will get back to you..

I have a Moultrie M-80 and M-100 and I am very impressed with both of them. A friend just bought a Primos truthcam 35 ultra. Impressive little cam and the review on chasing game was really good. Just over a 1 second trigger time. Relly good.

I have a couple of the M-80 cameras and I really like them. The flash is great and the sensitivity works well for trails or mineral sites. I even had a bear destroy one of them the first day I set it up last year in the metro. I contacted moultrie to get it fixed and they replaced it free.

I have a Bushnell Trophy Cam that I really like and have had for a few years. I just bought a Primos Truth Cam 35 because the price was good (about $120). Seems to be a good camera. I will know more in a few weeks when I pull the card for the first time.

Those Moultrie pics are nice. I'll be borrowing a trail cam for bear hunting this year since the person who owns it isn't hunting. I may need my own for deer hunting, so I'm leaning toward Moultrie. Thanks for the recommendations.

I would also go with Moultrie.

I had a Cuddeback Capture IR for 3 seasons that got stolen in December that I had good luck with but aren’t being made anymore. I purchased a Cuddeback Ambush IR that was a lemon and was returned. It simply would not trigger when anything would walk by. I went to Scheels and they recommended Moultrie M-80s or the Blackout even though they were $65 cheaper. I went with the M-80 and it works great. Excellent pics and battery life. I also have a StealthCam, but it doesn’t compare to the Moultrie.

Another negative about Cuddeback is their customer service. Not sure if anyone else has had the same experience, but they were tough to deal with.
