Vikings running back Adrian Peterson ran into some trouble in Houston early Saturday morning. He was arrested for resisting arrest by the Houston Police Department, who confirmed to CBSSports.com the identity of the Vikings player.

According to the HPD's HSOforum, Adrian Lewis Peterson (born March 21, 1985) was arrested for "resisting arrest/search" and booked on $1,000 bond.

Peterson was charged with resisting arrest (the HPD did not have any further information as to why Peterson was arrested) and released at 10 a.m. local time on Saturday on $1,000 bond.

"We are aware of the situation," the Vikings said in a statement to CBSSports.com. We will withhold further comment until more information is known."

It's obviously too early to pass any judgment on Peterson for the arrest. However, it sounds like there could be concrete details of the incident revealed: Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that "the incident culminating in Peterson's arrest was captured by one or more surveillance cameras."

Florio reports that Peterson was with his girlfriend and some family members at a Houston nightclub.

"Peterson wanted to get some water before he left, but an officer told Peterson that he needed to leave," Florio writes per a source. "Some words apparently were exchanged, but Peterson eventually walked to the exit with one of the club's bouncers."

According to Florio, "one of the officers then jumped on Peterson's back from behind and tried to take him down." It reportedly took several more police officers to actually arrest Peterson.

Sounds like there is going to be plenty of video of the incident from cell phones and club security cameras. Guessing he probably said something to escalate the situation which might not get picked up by the cameras.

Maybe coaching staff can get some leads on a good tackling lb from the tapes.

Quote:
Adrian Peterson was heavily intoxicated at the time of his arrest, which was very out of character for the NFL star ... this according to the club where he was busted early this morning.

Daniel Maher, general manager of Live at Bayou Place, tells TMZ that Peterson has been to the club before, but he has never known him to drink much. Last night, however, Maher said Peterson was very drunk and was a difficult customer all night.

Maher says Peterson was throwing his ego around and making people mad, so they put him in the VIP area. Maher says when the club was closing, he rushed over to the bar to try and order one last drink and when he wouldn't Maher says Peterson "tried to intimidate the bartender" into selling it to him.

According to Maher, that's when he intervened, but Peterson continued to be "unreasonable." That's when Maher says the off-duty cop intervened, and, as TMZ first reported, Peterson proceeded to shove him.

Maher says during his confrontation with the officer, Peterson assumed a fight stance and looked "like he meant business." Maher says, "He looked really scary and I thought he was gonna attack the cops."

Maher says that once the officers subdued Peterson, the NFL star apologized for his behavior and told cops he doesn't usually drink.

Peterson was eventually booked into jail and charged with resisting arrest.

Actually with all the money in their mitts, (that they never learned how to handle), and the pain they live with on a daily basis I am not surprised that many of them get in trouble. I hope he puts this past him and is able to concentrate on his job.

Will be interesting to see when all the details come out. From what I've read it seems like they were asked to leave when the bar closed and they were taking their sweet time. Security got annoyed they weren't leaving and it escalated. Who knows what really happened...

I'm sure the cops will report that they asked them nicely to leave and AP's group will say they were minding their own business and security took it too far.

AP tweeted "truth will surface."

That is code for "his team of lawyers are working on this and a plausable explanation is coming". I would feel better about him if he would just admit his mistake and get back to football.

The media is really digging on this one!

First off, he didnt do anything wrong, secondly, if some arrogant pushy cop pushed me for no reason, I would get into a defensive stance as well. From what I have seen, or read, Peterson only crime, was he didnt leave the bar right when the bouncer said it is closing time. I havent closed a bar up in several years, but back when I did, there was a lot of people that would be getting shoved out by security, because no one left when they said finish up, we are closing. In fact, the bar tenders usually just planned for people to be there for awhile and have fun while they finished up their drinks.

From every report I have read it was Peterson who did the pushing when he was asked to leave. Where did you read otherwise? The videos must not show much one way or another or we would be seeing them. Could well have been overactive security but it takes two to tangle and from all reports Peterson had been a difficult customer all night. But if you have the money to lawyer up you can claim that up is down and convince some it is true, esp those full of the Kool-Aid.

All I am saying is he messed up. He should take responsibility for his actions, take his medicine like anyone else and get on with doing his job. He doesn't deserve special treatment because he can carry a football.

I agree, kool aid can make some turn into unpleasant people, and if he did it, he should just plead, but that isnt how it works now days.

I have only read reports the security was trying to push them out the door, and Peterson didnt like it much. The only offense that got him arrested was not leaving the bar right away. I dont know the story, but it seems, the whole issue, isnt even a story to me.
