Dont let these guys fool you, I have caught many bigger flatheads off of 5-7 inchers, and I actually prefer 6-8 inchers. I never use anything smaller then 5 inches for flats, but I will fish with larger then 8 inches on occasions.

big difference from 2-7 and 5-7

most everyplace I've seen selling retail bullheads are usually on that small side.

Personally I don't think I would pay for anything under 5"

It's good to hear that they are at least stocking them though.

I'm not going to turn away from a 5-7" bullie any day - but I'm sure as heck not paying for a 2-5"er. When I lived in Kato I never had any shortage of 5-7" bullies I could catch in the local lakes, never anything bigger, and I caught tons of flats on the smaller ones. That being said, by the time I moved out of town it seemed like most of the lakes were depleting in bullhead population, so it's nice to see another store cater to something other than walleye/pike/bass.

Bisek I didn't realize you were a catman ... did you have any input in Scheels stocking them? Talk to your higher uppers and see if you guys can start stocking creek chubs again too ... Next time I cruise down to Kato I'll stop in Scheel's and say hi to ya.

Yep this holds water for me.

I find it funny that you used to not beable to give away bullies and now they want buck and quarter EACH I guess they are doing more than catering to catfishermen wink if you ask me its more like they are backing you in the corner grin

But in a pinch you gotta do what you gotta do.

Nutter-

Yup thats me, i dabble in the catfish game, musky man by heart but like to catch big fish. We just got the bullheads in this morning and we have them seperated little guys for walleye fisherman and bigger for cats, average size is 5 to 6 inchers still tryin to get some larger ones. I am hoping to have in creek chubs this month some time, kinda depends on what i can find or if i can find a supply man. Next time your in stop by and say hi. Do you know how much that guy north of kato is charging? i really want to stay competative or better for pricing on these puppies.

ten bucks a dozen would be a deal around here. we're paying two bucks each IF the bait shops have any, which is rare once the bite gets going. spend almost as much time chasing bait as chasing the flatheads. running from slu to slu isn't any cheaper with gas at 3.65.

You REALLY need to give Cathy WInkler a call...She's been selling bullheads to me for years. 3rd Avenue, just outside of town man. Better prices too.

So if small bullheads are undesirable compared to the big ones.. Where can I get some?? My only bullhead spot produces 5-8''ers regularly, with fewer some up to 11.

Somehow I don't think I'm going to get any response, I think I'm not the only one who values bullheads as small as I can get them.

Go to winklers in mankato! If she's out, or not home, i guess it'll be nice to haver scheels as a backup.

I'm guessing she's got good quantities this year with low water and good prices to go along. Got a little expensive last year due to difficult trapping conditions.

Brian, it's been a few years since I lived in Kato, so I can't tell ya what Kathy is charging nowadays for bullhead ... sounds like Truth could give you some insight though... If you're looking for a chub supplier, you may want to give the Dam Store in Rapidan a call - I believe Scheel's used to get their chubs from the same bait guy. Tip of the hat to you for taking the right steps to cater to the "minority" around these parts Bisek!

I will not hesitate to hook on a 4-5 inch bully for cat bait proof is in the pudding wink

Thanks to all that supply the bullies at the bait stores it will be nice to have a place to purchase them if one doesn't have time to catch his own.

Kathy's been selling for the last 4-5 years at least....usually they go for .75-$1 depending on how hard the trapping has been. She does get creek chubs in but seems to get more suckers than chubs....Dave at Rapidan supplies a lot of chubs to stores and walleye guys so im sure he wouldnt mind adding another client to his list... ive got 8-10" chubs out there in the past so he's pretty good for getting those.

I have a supplier for bullheads if the demand is high enough he traps minnows by trade sells alot of minnows to distributors in wisconsin. I get couple dozen bullheads 6-10 inchers when I head out west every other weekend. He gives them to me for free cuz I always buy bait from him but if anyone wants some I could probably work something out im going there tomorow.
