I am working on a picture to enter in a contest in my local camera club, and possible ship it off to N4C for the regional if it does well at home, This is for a Challenge category of "openings" I imediatly thought about macros of some dead trees and stumps at one of my favorite stomping grounds the Buffalo River State Park and Nature Conservancy. What amazed me is the amount of histogram info I was able to collect of some really intense details and structure. I am posting a print screen of my photoshop session to show you the hitogram in the Levels tab, and I havent even made adjsutments yet. I was amazed. I will post the finished copies here later on tonight. One in color and one in black and white for some help chosing which to use.

CMAN it is not cropped, that if a full image taken with a 100mm Macro lense with a digital frame around it.

Alright, that's fine, but all I'm saying is the color image has movements on the right and left side that brings your eyes into the picture. The black and white has no movement and you can't really tell what it is. If you're set on black and white try taking the color image and apply the same filters you did to the black and white and see how it turns out.
