Pork Loin

i dont use enhance pork for sausage and have a hard time for proper smoking as well. it just throws the formulation out of wack a bit. with cures you have to be carefull. enhanced pork is nothing more than pumped pork. water, salt, and phosphates are added. why? it's supposed to make pork more tender and moist. it's been done for over 20 years if i remember right.

i'm old school so i dont like it but i will buy it for chops, roasts, and ribs if its on sale. no different than enhanced chicken and cured cornedbeef. one reason they "enhance" the meat is for longer shelf life.

i dont know if your going to get the stuff out by soaking it in water. may help some but i have never done it so i cant say. i have had good luck with Sam's pork for i have found non-enhanced pork there at a good price. personaly i would use the Hormel enhanced for the grill. good luck.

ya, sorry, i wish i could give you a more optimistic opinion. i'm just talking about applying more cure or brineing. not talking about smoking stuff in your smoker as is like you would ribs ect. that would work out fine. on the possitive side, we all got a good deal at under 2 bucks. good luck.

I've had a roast soaking for a couple days in an Italian dressing, soy sauce, brown sugar marinade. Gonna throw it on the grill later today, what do you think, should I smoke it for an hour of so before grilling?

I did put about an hour of smoke on it before grilling, turned out excellent! I'm getting much more comfortable with the smoker these days thanks to all the help from everyone on here.

With the nice weather forecast yesterday, took some pork loin steaks out of the freezer on Sunday, fired up the gas grill last night for the first time this year. Sprinkled a little McCormick Roasted Garlic and Herb on them, had a couple brewski's while they grilled, ate one steak as a 'sample piece', together with the salad the wife made, had a great supper.

Life is good!@

With the continued nice forecast, took a turkey out of the freezer for Sunday, doing burgers on Sat, need to plan something for Friday I think too!!! Only thing missing will be the Twins broadcast on Sunday!!

i use the grill all year also, but i do a lot more from spring on. i have a char-griller [barrel type] with the fire box on the side. i've made a decision to get the Masterbuilt electric digital with the four rack at FF for $179.00. this will make it a solid year around for me for it's better insulated than my Char-Griller. so that will give me 2 webbers [i use camping]. the Char-Griller and the new addition. it will be an awesome year. good luck.

To me grilling is about the ambiance, kicking back in the lawn chair, having a brewski (or three), enjoying the cooking experience and smells. If have to dress up in insulated coveralls and worry about which direction the wind is from, thats not enjoyable.

To each his own.

I do the same thing Don grin

The gas grill is 2 away steps and hooked up to natural gas so there is no changing tanks.

The Weber is another story. Only used in the warmer months winkgrin

oh i will for sure. the last time they had whole boneless pork loins on sale they were non-enhanced so this will give me a chance for the canadian bacon dry cure [back board bacon cure] from high mountain.

the only down side of this type of sale is that everytime they have this one day sale the store is packed all day. they dont have the registers the bigger stores have so it can be backed up well. i will get there early. good luck.
