What a terrible race, or shall we say demo derby. Take out over half the field and most all of the top contenders.

I would guess that the 500 will have 15 cars finish the race if this continues.

Sad racing. Looks more like County fair demo's.

NASCAR needs to sit down wirth the owners and drivers to come up with a plan on how to fix these issues, not simply make changes and hope for the best.

It's nothing more than a demo derby as was shown tonight.

Anyone who says there are only 2 choices has no clue what is going on or could care less on how to address these issues. You cannot even get near the left rear of a car or 10 others will get destroyed.

Also please remember that this was the Bud Shootout and there was really nothing to race for but a trophy. You could see from the drop of the green that they were getting after it pretty hard. You can lean on the left corner of someone's bumper at any track and make them spin. They'll figure it out and remember how to race in a pack again.

I didn't mind the tandem racing just because it was something different and fun to see guys work together to move to the front, but it was kinda lame that people were searching for teammates and dialing up the radio to talk to each other. Now, the slingshot is back and you don't need someone pushing you to pass which is even better. The downside is that a small incident leads to a big pileup. Once again, nothing new...we've seen it before.

I just caught the second segment of the shootout. I believe Nascar will implement some changes in the drivers meeting on bump drafting in the corners and you may even see a spoiler change but I doubt it. Even though the race was marred by big wrecks, I have to say that Schrubby did some fantastic driving with the couple of saves he made and then the move at the end was absolutely awsome. I think if you look at past Bud shootouts you will see that those final 2 laps are always a huge meelee as people start blocking and try to position themselves for a win. reat finish, to bad many of the contenders were taken out in a couple crashes but ultimately, that seems to be what it comes down to with pack style superspeedway racing. He who survives the big ones has ample oppurtunity to win. I was impressed that with as toreup as Kyles car was that he could still get in there and run with the leaders. It used to be that aero was everything at these tracks and a caved in front end was the kiss of death for any hopes of winning.

The drivers and most of the fans wanted a change from the tandem racing. IMO, NASCAR did a good job of getting back to the pack racing. The drivers will learn quickly what they can and can't do. Giving them more rear spoiler to stabilize the cars will only create more downforce and drag which will bring back the tandem racing in order to go fast and less ability to pull out and pass without help like Kyle did last night. Harv, please share your opinion on the direction NASCAR could go to eliminate both the pack racing and the tandem racing. As I see it, with NASCAR's desire for parity you will have it one way or the other. IMO, they need to remove the plates but limit them to a 6 cyl engine to slow them down. Open up the strict limitations on the aero packages and let the teams tweak in certain areas much like the 48 tried to do. More of a "run what you brung" type of racing, within limits.

I'm curious what the answer is also? If you can't have pack racing or 2x2 racing then what? Single file merry-go-round? Maybe even spread them out so there isn't a single car within 10 car lengths of another! Now THAT sounds EXCITING!! :yawn:
