Wow, don't know how to take the silence? No one catches any Lakers? Or no one wants to admit to eating one? I'm thinking between 2-5lbs would be a good eating size?

29 replys and 1024 reads on the What size range is "keeper" for crappie thread so no one must get any Lakers? confused

I like them in that 3-5 pound range best. Last week we caught very few under 10 pounds, and even the big ones taste darn good boiled for supper when they are fresh. I prefer to release those bigger ones, though. They could be darn near as old as me.

I'd rather eat lute fish, how sad is that.

Have you ever eaten trout from inland waters, or just the Great Lakes? The ones we get in Canada are absolutely delicious. I've made it for a lot of people, and not a single one has said they don't like it. I'll take a shore lunch of trout over walleye, pike, or perch any day in the summer. In the winter, boiled trout dipped in butter is like lobster after a long day on the ice!

You sir, unfortunately, have not had a proper laker meal prepared for you then.Whether a Superior redfin or a MN or Ontario inland laker, there are so many ways to make an awesome meal it is redonkulous.

Fresh boiled on the ice, squeeze of butter and shake of salt and pepper, YUM!

Stuffed and grilled in foil on the grill. Marinated in a brown sugar/teriyaki ginger sauce and grilled, or simply baked with a pat of butter, dill and lemon juice.

Whew, I sure am glad that inland opener is this weekend, I made myself hungry grin

Eater size for me is @ 2-5#

Any trick to boiling lake trout?

I usually bake lake trout with a little butter, chopped onion, and S&P on top. Otherwise I batter and pan fry like walleye. Smaller fish are best for pan frying. Makes a great fish sandwich.

Ps I vote for 2-5 lb keepers, toss back anything over 8 lbs.
