fisherman-andy
Anyone have issues with the Skandia Tungsten Jigs color coating stripping & chipping away after minimal use? After catching a dozen crappies and perch I notice the coating has chipped or stripped worn away 1/4 exposing the bare metal color. Thought it just just a coincidence and decided to pull out another one to use and the same thing happen after some use. For the price you pay per jig I think im now gonna look at some other options if this issue continues.
CAMAN
Grab the jar of clear nail polish from your wife's nail polish collection and put a thin coat on. Some people even use the stuff with glitter flecks in it to give it a little extra pop.
smeese
3 bucks each they should hold up.....but good solution indeed
CAMAN
3 bucks each they should hold up.....but good solution indeed Well if you had gone to FF for one of their sales in November, you could have picked them up for $1.49 each.

If they can't figure out how to make a quality jig with a quality finish.. then they shouldn't be in the business... or.. my money will be spent elsewhere... I'm not going to be repainting or recoating anything that I've already paid them to do...Get it right.. or fade away.. that's how it goes..... rkpolaris
You shouldn't have to fix a jig that you have only used a few times...just my opinion
OnAFly
I'll take my $1.49 tungsten jigs that I have to apply a quick coat of hard-as-hull to considering the alternative is a $3 tungsten jig. It's worth half the price.
eagle_3464
I'm with Onafly....... I purchased a dozen at FF when they were on sale for $1.49 and coated them with clear glitter nail polish. I've caught around 100 bluegills on just one hook and the finish is just like new. I'll gladly put in a little effort for 1/2 price jigs. fishwater
The fiskas painted ones can be just as bad from my experience.

Calm down....go ahead spend your money else where...I don't care...but even the highest priced lures won't last forever...I've got a dozen or so Lindy and Northland and other expensive jigs that are completely bare I'm saving to recoat at sometime... This was just a tip to extend the life of any painted lure...or change it up a bit...you can use any color...even that hot pink I hear you like so much... And for the record I haven't had an issue with the 15 or so Skandia jigs I purchased on sale at FF, so I haven't bothered coating them yet with anything. Maybe a little chipping here and there but that is to be expected when you need to grab them with forceps.
CAMAN
The fiskas painted ones can be just as bad from my experience. Yup, probably even worse, that is why if I do drop my money on Fiska's they are going to be the epoxy coated.
huskie0302
I have been using the skandia jigs. I had no problem with paint, but tonight I set a hook on a gill, and the hook snapped off. Has this happend to anyone?
smeese
I have had some straighten out on some larger fish, none broke off yet....
CAMAN
I have been using the skandia jigs. I had no problem with paint, but tonight I set a hook on a gill, and the hook snapped off. Has this happend to anyone? Just learned this yesterday but apparently they silver solder the tungsten jighead onto the hook. After learning that I'd imagine if they put too much heat into the hook it will make the metal hook loose its temper or make it brittle, causing it to either break or bend too easily. I've heard people getting bad jigs from time to time, but I personally have never gotten one.
Chode2235
I have a couple of them, and yes, problems with the paint. Not nearly as good as the wolfram or bentley jigs.
fishwater
Not nearly as good as the wolfram or bentley jigs.Yeah, the epoxy jigs are super durable. You sacrifice density, but they are still heavier than lead of the same size.
jmillsp
I have been using the skandia jigs. I had no problem with paint, but tonight I set a hook on a gill, and the hook snapped off. Has this happend to anyone? I bit on all the hype and purchased my first tungsten jigs. Bought 6 of them at 1.99 per. They are Skandia and the first one broke after about 20 gills and the second one broke when I tried to pull it loose from my carpet in my shack. I went back to my lead jigs after that! They should at least bend. The hooks seem to be brittle.
bee
They do break easy. Will not get anymore.
dan z
I buy most of my tungsten jigs on the bidding site and when I find a flaw in them chip,hook.... I contact seller and end up with " free" jigs
