Topper for Ford F-150?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2010, F150. I bought an A.R.E. topper at Toppers and More in South St Paul. I did a lot of research on pricing and product, they had the right price/product to fit my needs, which are identical to yours. Check their HSOforum. They had a discount coupon when I bought mine.

Just noticed your from Slayton, don't know whats down that way. My topper has screened sliders and light in the back, that's all I needed.

anyone have any pictures?

I like the idea of a topper or a diamond back cover for my new f150 but with the topper the wife thinks it looks to much like an "SUV" and really doesnt like the looks of it. So we will see about getting one.

How about shelves in the truck bed with a topper on?? Whats everyone have or tool box?

I just ordered the 100XQ Leer topper from Radco in Bornsville. I didn't do a ton of shopping. They had the topper I wanted and Leer has a rebate going, so I pulled the trigger. You can see pictures of the Leer toppers at the Leer HSOforum.

I should have my topper in about 2 weeks. I could possibly post a picture than.

So what if it looks like an SUV? There is no decent way to haul anything and keep it dry and dust free without a topper. The solid ones that are the height of the bed really don't make sense to me because you have to have them tilted up if you're hauling anything with an height to it and then you're cutting down on how long it can be. The roll up one solve that problem but I think again you're limiting your ability to keep stuff dry. I have a full fiberglass on my truck and I can haul the dog and 1,000 things when going pheasant hunting and everything is dry and secure. I can leave the dogs in the crate back there over night if I'm someplace that won't let them inside. Finally, although it is a Bixxx I can take it off if I want to haul firewood or dirt or something like that.

Biggest drawback is the lack of side access. I use a broken hockey stick to pull stuff to me if possible but there are times when you have to crawl in there and the floor is hard on the knees. Second problem is that the locks on the back window get gunked up in a couple of years and have to be replaced. Not a big deal but I think they cost around $30 a set. You can buy little condom jobberdos to cover them and then they crude up with salt and dust really fast.

I can't remember the name but I do remember that they wanted the color code of my truck when ordering it. It is a perfect match.

I've had bedrug bedliners for years and I would highly recommend them. They’re easy on the knees when you have to crawl in. Things don't slide around in back and they don't get broken.

A.R.E top with underside lining and a bedrug to finish it out real nice and comfy. If your truck has a sliding rear window, get one on the topper aswell. You can have the best of both worlds in one purchase, and they look great for years. The bedrug is in both my trucks best add on a truck could have on it.

Enjoy your new toy, I'm looking at the 2012 Ford this will be my 5th, and it will get the same top and rug again.

ok yea i see they have a fiberglass top F1.

That is the one I am kinda leaning towards just wanted to know how everyone likes them.

How did it install?

Also say if i flipped up 2 panels does it stay locked? or the only really lock is by the tailgate and when its folded up on the rear window?

Hows it sit on the rear window nice??

what size bed do you have?

FWIW, my bro had a Backflip for about 4 years on his silverado and the thing just never worked great, and it literally fell apart. It covers the rear window when it is folded all the way, and the latches, well, don't... The alum frame sides broke apart at the rear. Now he has a truxedo or something, roll up, and he likes it a lot better.

With backflip, at least my bros, two panels do NOT stay locked if flipped up. They will SLAM shut, ha! Been there done that - thought we had a gun go off in back. Also, you can't "pack" the bed plump, cause if you do and it puts ANY pressure upwards on the panels, they could (did for us!) open up on freeway, and then it slammed open into the back window. I think they call it a "backflip" cause that is what it makes the drive do when it opens unexpectedly and scares the carp out of him (me!). No offense to those with them, but holy cow do they need some engineering fixes, at least his older one.

I am a topper guy, with the side contractor windows. Works awesome, can get at stuff from sides, but still have a hockey stick with a bike hook on the end to pull stuff wink I have a rubber mat so easy on knees and stuff doesn't slide. I also put a piece of carpet in sometimes just to finish it off. If you get topper, make sure to get it carpeted/lined it helps it look better, keeps dust down, and noise down when sleeping if you ever "camp" in it.

Good luck finding the best fit for you, lots of options, so that is good.

yeah it does look like it has a lot of moving parts (hinges more or less) Yes kinda of a problem for opening when snow is covering it.

But then again I have a roll up cover on my other truck and when there is snow you can brush it off when theres ICE you can not really open it just like the bak flip. so i guess i am not sure yet.

The topper is out of the question. SO either roll up,bak flip f1, or Diamond back cover....so still thinking probably get the bed LINE-x first

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
