Just wondering what most of you guys use for ice fishing line.

Gamma ESP ice. 2lb panfish rods, 4lb for my perch/walleye rods.

I can't find Gamma anywhere anymore, so I'm going with Trilene Micro Ice. Seems just fine to me.

I have thrown a couple feet of fluorocarbon on the end of each line. So far no failed knots, so it can't be hurting anything....yet.

I tried the 4ld suffix ice line this year and I love it. It's very tough and it seems to have very little memory it dosn't even coil as it comes off the reel.

So what is the different between regular mono and ice mono?

I am using a small # summer fishing line and it works fine. In fact for pannies I find it almost doesn't matter what line you use. They seem to bite anything when they are hungry

Ice line is supposed to stay more soft in cold conditions and the flouro ice lines resist icing better than standard line. obviously this will vary between users and conditions.

I use 3 or 4 lb firleine crystal on most combo's and I use some mirco ice on the bobber combo's.

You can order Gamma from their HSOforum. Knight industries runs them now. I ordererd 4 spools this year and they were delivered quickly. I would recommend ordering more than one spool since the shipping price is the same for 1 or 4+.

Had a chance to use STREN hi vis gold this past week. Even though its mono, it acts like a flouro line. If you are tightlining, its very nice to look at the line rather than the rod tip. Cheap line too. You will be impressed.

I am really happy with my Pline FlouroClear. Got a 300yd spool for $9 at cabelas. 4# test. Best line i've used on the ice yet...

Fireline on all but the bobber rod. I will add a floro leader to the fireline if needed in clear water.

To those using fireline...Does the line actually work when the air temp is 0 and your fishing outside? I could see this line working GREAT in the fish house (I strictly use powerpro or fireline in the summer with flouro leader) but have a hard time believing it works when hole hopping.

I don't think there is a major brand I haven't tried, but I'm back to Trilene XL in 2, 4, 6, and 10 Lb test, each with the corresponding weight florocarbon beneath a #10 spro power swivel.

The line works, just more ice beads than monofilament. It works better when everything freezes when the temps is 20F or colder. The Fireline cuts through frozen line guides better.

used trilene XL 6 lb for yeaas work great. cou[ple years back switched to fireline crystal works great.
