wheel house front jack ideas for atv pull

Looking for some ideas to put a wheel or ski on the jack of my wheel house so I can pull it behind my atv. I have 500-600LBS of weight there and need to transfer this weight to the ice so my machine isn't bottom out on the ice! Has anyone done this and if so a pic would be nice. I have a 2'' Bulldog jack on now and was loking at the 8'' wheel that slides in it but looks like that might be hard to get Northern says its no longer available.

I purchased 3 - 60 pund sand bags and stacked them up against the back wall. I also put my full propane tanks and two batteries in the back of the shack.

I can now lift my ice castle with one arm, and pull it with my 500 sportsman with ease.

I have chains on the rear of the sportsman.

I put ball coupler on a trailer dolly and I can pull around my travel trailer with a lawn tractor with that, see no reason why it would not work on a wheel shack. transfers the the hitch weight to the ground/ice, so it all rolls so easy, in fact the wind will roll it, don't ask why I know that smile

I have seen a bar that goes between the lower suspension arms on Polaris wheelers. It locks the suspension in place, so there is no squat at all. You have tons of rear traction as all the weight is on the rear wheels. Not sure who makes it but I think the big C sells it. That bar idea is a good one too, never thought of that.

Most of the boat ramps around here are steep.

Why can't you use that dolly on steep boat ramps?

Aside from the fact if the house chases the wheeler you could have a tangled mess.

I like your trailer dolly, and intend to make one for my other trailers.

I would imagine that a wheel dolly like the one shown above would work well if there were no snow and if the lake is not all rutted up from previous traffic on the lake, like the year we are currently having. But with any amount of snow or wheel ruts you will want some sort of a ski. There are advantages to a ski under the tongue and the wheels as well

1. By having more surface area under either the tongue or wheels or both is a lighter footprint(less PSI)

2. The other advantage to more surface area is less wear and tear on your house as your wheels won't drop into ruts and holes etc

You guys have both good thouhts and fabrication skills. How about using a modified snowmobile ski as a support? for a larger footprint - maybe two of them, side by side. I'm thinking of a ski-like the older sleds had, they were pretty wide and built for a beating. Might be something to do while we wait for thicker ice!

Well I see some good points made to consider. I like the frame above idea depending on the weight it can handle or just need larger payload wheels. For having no snow on the ice I think the wheel would work good and if there were snow my shack is too heavy to pull in any snow. I was hoping to get it out on Red or LOTW next week without using my truck. I ordered a 1200lb 8'' wheel from Ridgid Hitch yesterday to slide in the jack inplace of the foot but not sure how it will hold up the jack is rated at 10,000lbs welded on so I know that aint moving anywhere! Just gotta take it easy.

The jack may be rated at 10,00 pounds but that isnt 10,000 pound of pull

I have seen those jack twisted up like a pretzel on some houses as they were going to be pulled while set on the jack. Just a thought

The hitch like that was pictured is a great strt but I have seen them bulit with a boat tire style wheel and hub it takes the weight off of the wheeler and transfers it to the house so it moves easier . with the taller air filled wheel it moves easier thru the snow also.

If that much snow the wheeler will be a hassle anyways so you be better off using the truck anyway

Good Luck and bring a extra jack just in case wink
