Lets see some pics of your wheel or permanent houses!

Pushbutton, WhiskeyPete, and Upnorth, I really like the idea of a skid house especially after seeing your pics. A wheelhouse is years out of the budget for me but i really like the added space in a skid house. Couple questions though: How much 'stuff' do you feel comfortable leaving out there when your not around? Do you use a resort to do the pulling and storing? DO you find you do more fishing knowing that the shack is all setup?

THanks,

Kidmoe

I don't leave too much "expensive stuff" in the house when we leave. If someone wants to steal, I guess they'll steal. I try to keep close tabs on the important stuff like auger, generator, higher end rods, etc. We usually end up with a heck of a load when we pack for the weekend, but it's natural to us now.

We have a custom tilt/roller trailer with winch mount to haul the house each year. Once on the lake I like to use the trailer for hauling snowmobiles/atvs.

I love having the house on a good fishing spot and being able to walk in and turn on the lights on. With a skid house I can bank it high and many times have been able to fish the same holes as the previous week without redrilling.

Lastly, I NEVER find a flat tire or broken/frozen cable on the house when I get to the lake laugh

I have a few questions about ice fishing houses. Pardon me if they're stupid, I've never been in one.

1) Do any of them float?

2) I know the smaller houses use batteries for electronics. Do the big ones have generators?

3) Where do you put the fish that you keep?

4) I notice some of these houses have all the amenities of home, except I haven't seen a bathroom. What do you do if you need to take a you-know-what?

1. Mine defintely would not float! smile

2. We run everything off batteries and generator, use the generator to charge the batteries.

3. We usually have 5 gallon pails sitting between our holes with our vexilar sitting on top, throw the fish in the pails.

4. Some fish houses with the V-front have an interior wall (like mine) with a bathroom in the front. Basically it's a bench with a hole, we put a garbage bag in a 5 gallon pail underneath and use kitty litter to limit the smell. If it's just the guys out and you don't need to sit down, we usually step behind the house away from the activity, but the bathroom is handy when the wives or kids come out.

Mine has a flush toilet and a shower in the V-front, although I wouldn't suggest using either one during the winter, I wouldn't want a broken line when it's super cold out. It is also set up to use as a camper during the summer months.

About 30". Friend that gave it to me said they're rather difficult to locate right now. Should be a hot seller next year. Not me in Brainerd. On Red due to poor ice conditions on LOW (sounds to be open to traffic now but doubt to our big shacks). PM reply coming.

Well here is my new rig... Was looking for a upgrade from the 6.5 x 12 that I have. Its getting a bit tight in there with 3 kids and a wife so she let me go shoppin only rules were it had to have a bathroom...So I made many trips to milaca and just about bought a ice castle 3 times than decided I wouldnt be happy with the quality of the interior so I bought the 8 x 16 +v yetti. Told wife I could have it finished in a month and would cost around 2500...HAHA just about got her finished after over 3 months and i think I blew way past 2500. But now that it is done I am happy with my decision minus tons of long nights in the garage and some other hurdles.

That is absolutely gorgeous! I have the 6.5 X 12. Mine doesn't even come close to yours cry, I know what you mean about long days and nights working on it. Still not done with mine after 2 months. Some pictures:

Wow!!! That is an extremely nice house! You did an awesome job! How is the frame? Is that 2x4 or 2x5 on the outside frame?

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
