I've been hearing good things about this product. The local Home Depot didn't have any but has it on their HSOforum. There are a few different flavors so I was wondering which one people were putting in their portables. Maybe this one: http://www.homedepot.com/buy/building-ma...ion-123847.html

I want to cover starting at the front ceiling down the back wall. Thanks!

The stuff in the photo is the one I used, it kinda looks like silver bubble wrap. I just did the top, didn't bother with the back wall. I fish in pretty cold weather, it made a noticable improvement, namely no more condensation on the roof and it reflects the heat back down from the top. One roll did it for me and they make a foil tape to join the seams that sticks like crazy, mines lasted for over two seasons and is still in perfect condition. I thought if it came down the wall it may contact too many things in the house as I fish only off of a snowmachine and never out of a pickup on the ice.

I measured the ceiling. I bought a four foot wide roll, so I had to join 2 pieces together. Put it between the fabric and the poles. Once in place, take a sharp x-acto blade, cut 2 slits on either sides of the poles, and pull the velcro strips through and re-attatch. I cut mine long enough to cover the back. Attached mine to the back by cutting it so it just fit inside the plastic piece that holds the fabric to the sled, and screwed the piece along the bottom back on.

No adhesive for me. Just undid the Velcro and put it between the canvas and the poles. it is nice and tight when i put all the poles in. sat out tonight with sweatshirt and sweat pants and small buddy heater in 12 degrees and was toasty. small fan helps too

The only reason you should need the tape is to connect the pieces of refelectix together to get the needed width. I used duct tape at the start of last season and it is still holding fine.

One thing that I don't think was mentioned is to tape the slits that you cut for the velcro to go through. This will prevent any ripping.

For those who have covered the back wall and roof, what have you used to attach Reflectix to the sled or canvas at the sled? That's the only thing I really have left...right now it's duct taped, but I don't think that's gonna hold long.

I sewed in a patch of velcro on the bottom of each side of the canvas right above the sled. The adhesive back of the velcro seems to stick pretty well on the reflectix. I'm hoping that will stay. I like using the back door on my Yukon to go in and out if there are two of us in there (easier than avoiding holes, flashers, etc). This way I have a quick flip of the reflectix and out I go.

I just did my Denali and have most of a roll left over. South metro. Let me know if anyone wants it. Free. Just gonna get banged up in my garage.

I'll take it please, live in Savage. I'll pm you my phone, let me know when I can pick it up.

Thanks!

There is another option!

There is a product called a double sided emergency blanket. One side is aluminized and the other side has a flexible plastic liner. They are super thin and flexible and offer the same benefits as the reflectix without the bulk. the ones I used where supplied by Coghlan's (they are simular to coleman camping supplies).

I was on board with the whole reflectix band wagon however the extra bulk did not appeal to me. I found these at Sportsmans warehouse at the time and they ran about $20. Two of them where more than enough to cover the ceiling of an otter lodge.

Either will make a remarkable difference in the warmth of your portable!

Another option, check out Canvas Craft for a piece of Norpac. At times they have smaller pieces from the end of rolls or projects. They could even hem the edges quickly, won't be as bulky, folds up nicely and will probably last longer. And, for windows, roof vents or back doors of permanent shacks, CC can/has made curtains that snap on to keep the heat in.
