Minnesota ice update

As of this afternoon it looks like at least two large bodies of shallow water in central Minnesota have ice. They show up white with snow cover from yesterday. They look to be Christina west of Alexandria and Rice NE of Millelacs.

Lots of small-mid sized lakes completely frozen around the Bemidji area, heard a few guys were setting tip ups on a lake south of town with 3 inches already.. should be able to walk and fish the week after thanksgiving

Closest you can get is by clicking on the "250m" link. Which means 250 meters per photo pixel. Be prepared, it's BIG!

If you want to try and zoom a little closer you can try using your browsers zoom. If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel and it's setup properly some browsers (I know IE and Chrome do) allow you to hold the CTRL button and scroll up and down with the wheel and it should zoom you in and out.

That isn't clouds. Way to solid and crisp edges. There are also a bunch of small chunks.

Those are what clouds look like just to the east.

It also looks like the southern edge of the mass is the same profile as the south-east shoreline. Which tells me it was all jammed up to shore then the wind shifted and pushed it out.

The cool thing about this site is that it updates every day so you can keep up on what is happening. Viewed full size you can see just where the snow fell on Saturday and in the view I posted there are still clouds off to the east. The Millelacs white spots could either be some clouds or maybe patches of ice or slush. On the down side, there is a gap in coverage over most of northern Minnesota,

I am pretty sure those are clouds.... Ice normally forms around the outside of a lake first and then makes it way to the center. I have never seen ice formation start in the middle of a lake. Also, looking at webcams from around Mille Lacs, it looks like they are just starting to get shore ice, so I highly doubt the main lake had any amount of ice you would be able to see from a satellite
