Looks like they have a couple different configurations, but they look like the price point and features of the $200 one are the same as the regular Hero plus Wifi

The silver resembles the Hero 2 at the same price point and features.

The new one would be the black at $400. It gives you 1080P at 60fps and 720p at 120fps and is 12 MP camera. Hope it takes a bigger SD Card.

The bad news is the original Hero and Hero2 are now obsolete grin

The big thing is the wifi is now built in to all three models! By the time I added the wifi back on mine along with LCD screen I had well over the price of the Black Edition. This looks like a good move by GoPro.

Looking around at some of the other competitors in the POV camera segment, I noticed that the V.I.O POV HD camera has the abilty to "Loop and forward" so fisherman/hunters that like to capture those awesome moments without having to wade through hours of footage, this is one that should get your attention.

What "Loop and Forward Mode" allows you to do is choose a "loop" time from a few seconds out to several minutes. This "loop" of video functions as a way to record video and NEVER miss a killer shot without storing endless hours of unwanted video.

"If you set the "loop" time for one minute the POV HD will buffer one minute of video, continuously. When something epic happens and you want to record the action all you need do is press the record button on the record head or included wireless remote and you'll have video from the moment you pressed record AND the preceding one minute of "loop" video you told the VIO HD to record as well."

I haven't checked out the GoPro3 to see if this is an option or not but maybe this could be built into the Smartphone apps in the future.

I know I have been frustrated with long hours of editing time with my Turkey and Waterfowl hunts and this feature would rock!

That's awesome. It's a great alternative to recording the entire outing and then searching later for the good stuff.

It's basically the same technology as the ability to hit the "rewind" button the DVR even when you're just watching "live tv" -- in that case it always just automatically saves the last hour or so of video of whatever channel you happen to be watching, even if you haven't told it to 'record'.

I was looking at it too. It might be good for some limited things. The control unit looks a little fragile. Add to that the fact that its waterproof to a whopping 3.3 ft. I'll glady spend more time editing than spend hundreds of dollars more for a unit that appears have less overall uses.

I might have to pick up a white model. The wifi option with an app would be very cool. I almost pulled the trigger on a go pro 1 for $160. It's worth the extra $40 for wifi IMO. Everything I've heard about these cameras over the past few years has been good. Sounds like a solid product.

Finally got around to learning my hero2 this fall and am completely frusrated. Learned around the house/garage and in back yard with dogs. No problem. Take it out hunting and video is all horrible. Grainy and miscolored. Sound is good but video unwatchable. Take some good videos in shack so try it out hunting on day 2 and all is well. Take to nodak trips and nothing. Just got back. Looked at bad vids. Slapped camera on my melon and walked around house. Comes out great. Wife called gopro and after holding for 40 mins is told they don't work well in low light. Vids I just looked at were in full sunlight and the walk around the house is a cloudy day with all blinds drawn. Ordered directly online so prolly now need to ship back and forth several times.

Are you viewing the video directly from the camera using quick time or windows media player or is this after you processed the video thru movie maker?

What resolution were you shooting the video at? #5 or #4 or #3?

I noticed that if your not shooting at 60fps outside in a moving situation it looks blurry...but I only have the original.

When you purchase them, they should come with two doors. I believe the one that is on it lets sound in and is not the under water one. The other door is solid and if you put that one on it should be water proof.

I just bought a battery back pack and it also came with two doors. One with side vents and one solid so it is water proof.

Am viewing vid with camera hooked to puter. Will try chip directly in puter but doubt that will change anything as sometimes it works. Most times not. Same with resolution. Should be consistently bad in all situations. Leaning towards bad camera or bad chip. Just strange that it always works when practicing and almost never works out hunting.

    • Power output is:  amps x volts = watts   If your charger is pushing 10amp at 12 volt: 12 x 10 = 120 watts.  2 banks = 240 watts.   240 watts / 120v at your outlet = 2 amp.   Efficiency isn't 100% so it's gonna be more than 2 amp on your garage circuit, but maybe like 2.4 amps.     I think.... It's been a while, LOL.  Either way 20amps output on a charger for a 12v battery isn't the same as pulling 20amps off your garage circuit.
    • Wanderer, thank you. I did look at the breakers for my garage/outside outlets and they are 20 amp.  I reached out to the company that makes dual pro chargers with the question and this is the reply I received.:     Thank you for reaching out to us here at PCS. The Sportsman series charger, although rated ay 10 amps per bank, draws only 5 amps from AC when all banks are charging. As the Professional series which provides 15 amps per bank, has a maximum AC draw of 7.5 amps with all banks charging.
    • That’s an interesting point.  While I understand how Amps work, I can’t say I’m fully versed in the draw of modern on board chargers.   By modern code, outdoor and outbuilding outlets should be 20 Amp.  If your outside or garage outlets are 15 Amp, they’re undersized.  But that is quite possible if the garage was built before that code became enforced.   With heavy use, you may not be able to keep up on daily charging without the 10 Amp per channel charger, however that’s with very aggressive use for consecutive days.  On our June muskie trip we run up to 15 hours a day for up to 7 days on a 24V Ulterra and by mid week we’re starting to see the batteries not reach full charge.  That’s a lot of bank running at nearly 2 mph on windy shores.   We charge at a dock with up to 6 boats per dock plugged in - some with 36 volt systems.  Now I’m not sure if all the outlets are on a dedicated circuit but I’m betting they aren’t.  But they’re all 20A outlets with a lot of draw on them.  At max draw, they’re not keeping up but also not tripping the breakers.   What I’m saying, without a technical review is: you’re probably fine either way.  You probably won’t tax your batteries so much that they can’t recover on a 5 Amp per channel overnight charge and a 10Amp per channel charger probably won’t be too much to plug into your 15A outlet - if it really is a 15A.  If you’re sure, you’re sure, but I would double check if you’re not 100%.
