Trail Cameras

Recommended Posts

What is the best trail camera for the money. I realize the more you spend the better you get. I have a cheapo moultrie that I cannot ever get anything but leaves/branches on. Even when testing it with me walking by....usually i'm just off the screen, or not on it at all. I'd love to get a cuddeback, but those thigns are so darn expencive lol.

Like new pickups or computers..... most all of the companies have a good camera at a comparable price. Your going to hear a lot of bad stuff about the Cuddeback but I myself LOVE them. You can pick up a new Cuddeback Capture for around $150. Best bang for the buck IMO. If you want an infrared, id go with something different... Primos seem popular, the Bushnell Trophy Cams.... all are in that same price range and your going to have a lot of fun with it!

Good luck!

A good trick to try before you go out and spend more $$ is to angle the camera. Placing your camera at an angle down the trail (say about 45 degrees) will give the camera a much larger margin for error in capturing whatever set the camera off. You can also try moving it a few yards further back from where you currently have it. Do both and you may feel like you have a new camera!!!

I bought a Moultrie M-80 this last spring and have been very happy with it. Runs on 8 AA batteries and they have been in since May and still going. Takes great pictures and the night time IR pics are very bright. You can find the on the E-auction site for just over a $100.

I bought a spypoint 4 mp camera from cabelas online for $80 with a $20 off online code they have out about a month ago. The camera is awesome and runs off of 6 AA batteries with good battery life. I had a convert II assassin (very similar to bushnell bone collector) and the spypoint is just as good as it but half the price.

I will second the spypoints. I bought two Ir-5's for 120 bucks a piece, and I love them. I also have 2 moultrie m-40's, 1 primos truth cam 60 and a little acorn mms. The moultries are junk. The primos is nice, but the trigger is very sensitive even on low setting, tons a blank pics from sunlight, and wind. The Little Acorn takes pictures pretty similar to the Spypoint but its about 300 bucks since it can send the pics to your phone or email.

Here are a couple pictures from my spypoint G4 trail cam. As you can tell the picture quality isn't perfect but for a $100 camera it exceeded my expectations by far and the reviews online speak highly of them as well. Gander even has a sale on them right now.

i can see them

i just got a Primos Truthcam 46... it seems to take decent pictures, and it was 99 bucks at WalMart. I'm still learning how to position it to get the right angle, because I too get a lot of blank pics or just portions of a deer. Probably a ubiquitous problem though

Best is have the camera facing down the trail at a pinch point and then either have a salt block or now this time a year use a scent to get the to pose for the camera . and then set the camera up for a multi pic at least you may get them on the second pic.

I just got a Moultrie M-80 a couple of weeks ago. And Im very happy with it. I got it for 130 bucks. I had it up for two weeks and it took 70 pictures, With a few bucks in it, which got me pretty excited to get up in my stand.

Here is a very good review: http://www.[YouNeedAuthorization].com/index.php?id=214
