How long do you sit?

I sit from dark to dark as many days as possible. Some days I have a kid out with me or the wife. In those cases I sit as long as they can handle. You guys who take a lunch break would probably hesitate to do that if you saw how many deer move around midday. Even when the does are bedded the big bucks cruise from bedding area to bedding area looking for a hot doe. Pre and post rut you are less likely to see the big boys mid day since they base all their movements on food. But during the rut the have one thing on their mind and will be looking all day. Good luck to everyone this year!

Most openers I sit until I get down to gut something out. Usually that's somewhere between 8:00 & 11:00, if it's earlier then 11:00 I usually get back in my stand. Beyond that it depends if I'm going to move stands, or we're going to make drives, or have deer someone wants help hauling in, whatever. We often will wind up having some food in the shack somewhere in there, probably be hunting somewhere except for an hour or so in there. My opener stand is primarily a morning stand. All the afternoon deer, with the exception of 1 I think were as a result of drives.

what kinds of stands are you guys sitting in that sit all day? I have a hard time sitting 2-3 hours at a crack

I have a Big Game ladderstand that is by far the most comfortable stand I have ever sat in! Never get uncomfortable in that thing. That being said, if the deer activity is good, I will not get out of the stand unless, like Big Bucks, it is to gut an animal. If the deer movement is slow, then I will climb down around 11, quick bite to eat and back in the stand by noon. Sit til dark. I like to be in my stand minimum of 30-45 minutes before shooting light.

Summit Viper Extreme

This is the most comfortable stand that I have ever sat in. I also have the foot rest which makes changing feet positions possible and it makes the stand feel twice as big. Totally reccomend this stand to anyone...

I go with my gut feeling, I listen to the noise/sounds of the area meaning if I hear after 9:00 heavy gunfire I realize people are making drives and I want to give it a half hour before getting down, I go by the weather, I go by if I have a monster on tcam I'm not going anywhere, I go by 28 years experience and living where I see deer nearly every day of my life. It all depends but weather reports are a bit ugly maybe so if Saturday I'm sitting all day especially if they are forecasting heavy wind for Sunday, rather sit all day Saturday then the first 2 hours sunday and get out of dodge.

I know Soukkala's over in the Carlton area...

I hunt just like I fish. Sun up to Sun down, nothing better than sitting all day. I usually bring some reading material, and or electronic games on silence. And when I hear shooters, sometimes I get mad, but I always think about "what if they push something this way?" always got to try and be ready. Sometime a man can sit all day only to see nothing, but at least you can get out and tell yourself "at least you tried". Never going to see anything if your not in your deer stand!

I know Rod, his ex Jackie, and their daughters. I dated Their oldest Daughter for a few years in college. Back in the day I'd love to drive up and visit the carlton area during the summers. Rod took me out trout fishing on some smaller streams in that area and took me pike fishing on a few small private lakes. I have alot of good memories from that area.
