November Bass?

I do pretty well for bass all year except november-I can get one maybe two fish and that's it-I have tried slow presentations and live bait.

Does anyone have any ideas? What kind of lake do you pick?

Don't tell me to switch to whitetail bass either!

speed it up. look for reaction bites. Fish during sunny afternoons in shallow water and burn a spinnerbait, shallow crank, or a lipless crank in fast. You'll catch more fish, cover more water, and stay warmer yourself trying that approach. I was out this past saturday on an annandale area lake and used that method. Caught 5 bass and 2 med/small pike in about 2 hours of crankin. I didn't kill em by any means but it was decent. I know I missed about 3-4 as I think I may have been going too quick but it is that speed that gets them to bump it in the first place. I think all bass were hooked up on rear treble of cranks. Pike slammed them and inhaled whole thing. Lucky i didn't lose the 10 dollar clackin rap on a 24 inch snake.

I know a lot of people say fish get sluggish. But as Fever implies even the "fast" presentations we use travel at maybe 5 MPH. That's a slow jog at best, and much slower than any of their prey species would attempt to escape at even in the cold water.

I've fished cranks until late November and still do pretty well. Like mentioned above I only look for the one aggressive bite in the area I'm fishing and it's usually the big ones only. Lots of big bass to be had this time of year.

Let me give some advice to th64 (thats me) do not try a new shallow lake in Nov. the strike zone is smaller-save your exploring for the summer.

This weekend I will go back to a lake I know well-

Still have this long list of lakes to check out--could not resist

Got out today. 5 Bass but good size. One over two, one at 2.60, one at 4.22, one at 4.60. The 4 pounders were one cast after another on the same spot, that was fun. Finally was able to land some fish on a jig (biggest 3 came off a jig). I had no confidence in fishing jigs, but I really need to learn how to fish them so I limited myself to a jig and a lipless today and it worked decently well. Video to come shortly.

this thread is an excellent reminder of why i dont step foot in the bassboat past sept 15.

i dont think catching 5-10 bass a day is very good fishing at all. everyone claims fall is the best time. ill take spring and summer.

Just being on the water is a good day for me. Fish are a bonus. But to each his own.

There are days when they'll be schooled up and you can catch 50 in 3 hours without moving the boat. We only caught 5 on Sunday, but we were out just 2.5 hours. It took us over 2 hours to find the first fish, after that they were cooperating, it was just windy and getting dark so we had to pack it in.

I love early November. The fishing is slower but the big ones are on the move.

In the first 7 days of the month I have caught four LM bass of 7 lbs and over.

The largest went 7 lbs 8 oz and was 23 inches long.

My five biggest in one day, so far this month, is 28-6.

Unfortunately I had to pull the boat from the lake but I hope to get out on the weekend before I have to winterize the boat and put it away.

The really big fish time of year doesn't last long but is fun while it's happening. I also put my share of time in when fishing. On the weekends I will fish from early morning until just after dark. It can be slow fishing but well worth the wait.

each season has its pro & cons. sure i like summer pattern bassin best if i had to pick one. due to my love for froggin/sloppin and the better variety of ways you can catch them.

but fall feedbag fishin can be stellar. like mentioned if you find where they are stacked, wooo weee can ya crush'em at times.

the other benefit with fall bassin is that the recreation folks are off the water and many times i've literally had the lake to myself, pure sweetness!! cool

for those that don't appreciate fall bassin, as also mentioned the more big girls for us that do =)

Jefflake,

You got any pics of these hogs from this year to post. Every year it seems like you pull a couple 7's out in the fall and I always look forward to your fall post/pics. I was hoping to get a 7 this year but am stuck at 6 lb 7 oz. This weekend might be my last shot.
