trolloni there is nothing wrong with giving a estimate as long as you don't include contact information. If he wants that he can always PM you. I agree on the poured foundation.

Do they still need to pour the foundation on top of footings ? Its been a few (many) since I have done concrete work and that is the reason why I am asking to see if things have changed.

Detached garage with no heat, I think you can do a floating slab with a thickened edge.

Once you add heat, you'll need foundation and footings. Footing depth depends on what part of the state you are in (north or south).

I didn't bring my code book home tonight but can sure check tomorrow.

FWIW, I have a 28x36, floating slab with the thicken-ed edges ("footings") and we put a thickened "footing" down the middle. If I recall it was 12" all around. That was code, then at least (not the middle, we did it anyway). I have one course of 8" block and 2x4 walls. I do have it insulated now, and heat it all winter. No problems in going on about 9 or 10 years. Wish I would have gone 2x6 walls and storage trusses. We can't have drain here, so I slanted the slab to run towards the big doors, and it works great.

Good luck with your project smile

Floating slab with thickend footings is what I did for my 30 X 40 garage and I have 3 to 6 courses of block stepped up to make 10ft side walls and set my 8 foot side wall garage kit on it. No problems in 12 years

Most all the detatched garages that I have poured have been floating slabs with thickened footings. I have also done frost footing on garages as well all depends on what your city and county codes are.

As for prices Its been a while since I priced out block but I could call a couple of buddys still doing it and see what the going rate is if that helps at all.

Footings are roughly $15LF, block is about $6/ea, slab is around $3/sf. Footings=$1,860 + block=$2,790 + slab=2,808 grand total $7,458 or about $8.00/SF. don't forget to add excavation. This will get you close.
