since we're talking cows and bears I thought you might find these pics interesting. It seems a bear got a little too close to the calves and and a couple Momma cows took care of it. From the pictures the bear was able to walk off but it looked a little sore. Broken ribs?

Ha! Great pics! I am no farmer, but our farmer friend told us that we shouldn't worry about the bulls as much as the cows when they have calves. He said they are way more dangerous, and was almost killed by one who snuck up on him after he got too close, had him down on the ground like that bear he said, broke ribs and other bones... his kid got it away using a skidloader and another guy was hitting with hammer to the melon and it kept going after him... wow they were getting that bear in those pics!...

All joking aside, cows (the female of the species generally) can be really ornery when young ones are involved. My grandpa and uncle were almost killed by a cow in the barn several years ago.

I give a very wide bearth to any animal when food and babies are concerned.
