Thorne Bros Deadstick Rod

I am looking at getting one. Has anyone used them? I got that Living Social Deal and want to use it on that rod. I am wondering what the rods does when a fish takes it and how long it takes to get used to not using a bobber?

Never to early to think about new ice rods smile

I've had one for 5-6 yrs now. My all around favorite rod. Not an all around rod for sure, but if I could catch fish and fight fish on one rod, it would be my Thorne Deadstick. Very forgiving when your fighting / trying to focus on the jig rod and one takes the deadstick. I've caught alot of fish on it that basically have hooked themselves while I'm busy with the jig rod. I still use a very close to neutral bobber (large foam "cut-off" bobber.

I almsot forgot about my Living Social Deal. If I didn't have one, that would be a no-brainer purchase for me. You've got me thinking about getting another now. good luck....

Thanks Goose!! That was what I was looking for.

Kevfish...The living social deal Thorne Bros had was a $75 gift certificate for $36 or $37. It was a steal of a deal and went very quickly. My wife gets the e-mails from Living Social and it came up right around Father's Day.

I have 2 and I love them. Just set in the holder and watch the minnow swim the tip around. When the fish takes it let it put a bend in the tip then grab out of the holder and set the hook at the same time. I hardly ever use bobbers for walleyes through the ice now.

Thanks Northlander, I can't wait to pick one up and give it a try this year. I look forward to seeing what the rod does without the bobber. I picked up a noodle right at the end of the year, but didn't get a chance to use it. Not that I am wishing for snow and cold, but bring it on smile

Got a sweetheart dead stick myself. Not my favorite rig, but slowly becoming that. I'll use it as a true dead stick, but also as a bobber rig. When hole hopping an area, I'll use it with a tall and narrow bobber so I can see it from a distance - works better than a tip-up.

I have about 6 of them. They are really awesome. The only only thing is that with the light tip really special care needs to be taken when transporting them. I have never broke one fishing but have had it happen a few time in the case as I have shoved the rod in the case the tip has rolled back and broke. That said I will continue to used these for years to come. My favorite Thorne Bros rod followed closely by the sweetheart walleye rod.

My son bought a power noodle from Thorne Bros 2 years ago and when he told me what he paid for it, I said are you nuts?? 60 bucks for a rod??

I used it one weekend and I now own 5 myself, they are the greatest rod money can buy for panfish and worth every penny!

If those deadsticks are anything like the power noodles, you can't go wrong.

Quick question: how are you guys fishing with your power noodle?

Do you lay them across a bucket or what? The one thing I liked about fishing with a slip bobber is that you could leave the bail open and not have to worry about your pole being pulled down the hole. Not quite the same with the power noodle.

In my shack I put it in one of those rod holders that clamp on the frame, but when fishing outside I am not sure if I am comfortable leaving it on a tight line hanging over the hole.

I just love mine, it has all but replaced tipups for me, just put on a long shank lead head jig, and hook the minnow by the dorsal fin but from back to front, so the point is facing the minnows head and facing up.
