favorite walleye tip...

Recommended Posts

No matter what you think, the walleyes are going to be where they want to be and biting on what they want to eat.

Get used to it and keep looking.

I've caught more walleyes where they weren't supposed to be than you'd believe. But they still tasted great. wink.gif

Tip: Always try to learn something when out fishin'. Wether it be learning the graph a little better, new potential fishin' spots, or what worked for you and what didn't. Go out exploring when the fishin' is tough. Look for the new spots. But most of all, get out and relax and enjoy the day. Fish are just a bonus on a beautiful day. Oh, and don't forget the safety chain when pulling the boat out of the water. Good luck the rest of the summer, Junky..........

I'd second the safety chain thing. I'd forgotten about this, but we went shore fishing when we were at Devils Lake in June & rather than unhook the boat, we'd just brought it with as there was plenty of room to park it. We were fishing right near the rig & my 3 year-old daughter was playing around with the latch on the ball hitch. I made sure it was latched when we left, no problem. When we got back to where we were staying I had to say a small thank you prayer. She had apparently been playing with the winch too. Who knows why I didn't think to check that? The safety chain that holds the boat on the trailer was stretched out so the boat was probably a foot from the front of the trailer. If that safety chain wouldn't have been on, & I've gotten home a time or two & found it wasn't, my boat would have been on the road.

I'll agree with that safety chain suggestion. I was an active member in a "get the boat off the road and back on the trailer" gang earlier this summer.

Although we didn't get very far from the water before the winch let loose, dropping the boat 10-15 yards from the water. When you have someone else cranking the boat on make sure to ask them if they put the safety chain on. Otherwise you might be cranking it slowly back on the trailer as you back the trail back under the boat. If you're lucky there won't be anyone else at the landing to laugh at you(we were lucky). wink.gif

I've seen it happen to others a few times at the public access. Never thought I would be a member of that club.

Well at least no one got hurt, damage was very minimal and it wasn't my boat. grin.gif

I got one, Make sure your looking were your going and don't back off the side of the landing and flip your boat over and rip the back of your truck up. I didn't do this but I saw it happen. There was a good drop on one side of the landing and the guy wasn't watching and one tire went off and the rest of the trailer followed. ouch..

muskybuck, I must agree. But it's much more than just reaching for lunch. It's more like...

Stop paying attention to your rod and line altogether.

That's when I usually get all the bites.

Here's another great tip that I told a kid once.

"You gotta wet the line."

We were at his home at the time, he took the hose and sprayed down the line on his reel. ROFL.

I hear you on the food thing. It used to be we'd go long stretches of time without a fish & I'd be digging in the food & crack open a Coke & eventually manage to spill the can & bang I'd get a bite. It got so consistent that way that sometimes when it was slow I'd just pour some pop on the floor of the boat & I'd get a bite. Ask my cousin, he was always my partner, & he swears that's how it happened.
