They should have weighed it

Interesting article i heard about over the weekend about a very Big Bass caught on a nearby lake. If the Link I put on here doesn't work, the article is in the New Richland Newspaper. http://www.newrichlandstar.com/jnews/fea...eaver-lake.html

I think I would have weighed it. Just saying. But regardless, what a nice fish!

Congrats to her on a very nice catch. My personal best is a 22.25 and mine weighed 6lb 7oz - I caught mine in late July. I don't mean to harp or start a mess but I wish more people would look into replicas. It is well within their rights to keep but it will take 10-15 years to replace that 22 incher. Beaver is a small lake, prob not too many of those pigs in it. Not to mention, assuming good health, that fish was about 2-3 years away from being in the conversation for the next state record. It may be just me, but it looked a touch on the skinny side so I'm guessing upper 5lb range. Tough to tell from the photo though. Still... all and all, congrats.

In my avitar pic on the left there, I'm holding my personal best in my left and a 19.5 in my right. Those to fish and an 18 incher the eve of July 26th (wife's b-day), a couple years back, won our league event with 13 lb 14 oz. Not a bad 3 fish bag for Mn.

Ive caught several a few bass ugly bass this year. A 21" at 4.1 lbs, 20" at 3 lbs 14 oz, another 20.5 at 3 lbs 12oz. I call them the " northern bass" a big fish with long skinny body. That fish looks like a mid 5 pounder given that it has already spawned.

You guys are high, Id bet that fish goes 6lbs easy

Oh I agree, it could be 6 lbs, but the state record is 50% bigger than that.

It's got a huge head and solid shoulders, but it's skinny. Catch that thing late October and I'd put it between 7-8 lbs.

Have you had any replicas made? If so, who did you have do it? Or any recommendations on a good place to go for a replica? My taxidermist doesn't do replicas and am thinking of going that route in the future.

No actually I don't know a person that does replicas. I have a 5 ish lb bass a 16.5 inch Crappie (on the way), and a 10 lb 29.75inch Walleye on the wall. I've kind of made my mind up that I won't take another fish like that out of a lake. My next mountable fish will be measured and photographed and then I will find a place (hopefully affordable) that can do a replica. I've read several posts on this site in the past discussing places that do replicas. I'm sure if you post the question you'll get a ton of answers and ideas.

What are you guys paying for a good replica? Never done it before and have contemplated getting a replica done on a Waconia monster from a few years back. I have a photo and weight but didn't take measurements. It was in a tourney. Wish I would have taken the extra time now...

Leech, What is the cost (ballpark figure) on that pike you have coming? Also ballpark cost on your Bass. Congrats on the mount(s), I think it looks sweet. The reason I ask is My personal best Largemouth is a 22.25 and I recently caught and released a 42 inch musky. Would love to have replicas made of each.

Here's a few more pics of the bass. The pictures don't do it justice. It looks way better in person. Artistic Anglers is IMO the best out there. They do all the replica mounts you see in a Cabelas. You have to wait a lttle bit longer to get your mount done, but its worth the wait. The bass was like $375 and the pike is going to be around $600. They charge $13.50 an inch unless you order during the Sportsman Show then its $12.50. Thats funny, my bass came out of Waconia too!

Oh yeah, and the best part about Artistic Anglers is they put the fish in a natural postion so it looks more like artwork than what you normaly see with other taxidermists....the mouth gapping wider than normal and the gills flared out way beyond what is natural.

Good info Leech. Weird. Mine too was from same lake. Nice to hear that we've all released ours. My wife will freak when I tell her about my little plan as it will cost aroun 800.00 + for my 42 inch musky and the 22.25 inch Bass going by the numbers from the sportsmans show.

NTW' date=' how big is that fish in your avatar? quote']

I don't know eek It is my personal best and it was over 22" is about all I know for sure. I was alone and my mind was wiggin out after I caught it. All I could think to do was set up the camera for a quick picture and get it back in the water.

Funny thing is I followed the same procedure when my wife caught one about that size last year (freaking out and only getting pics)...I remember saying if it ever happens again I am getting a weight/length so I can tell people how big it was. whoops!
