reinhard1
new to me but maby new to some. my daughter told me her friend makes her own "dairy queen" type cake so to speak. she takes a baking pan like a 9 by 12 and puts oreo cookies crumbled up on the bottom. she then puts melted ice cream and pours in in the pan. she then puts other stuff [whatever you like] like chocolate chips, crubled vanila wafers or whatever into the melted ice cream in the pan. then she freezes it and makes another with a different ice cream flavor and puts more stuff in it like bannana slices, rasberies, or whatever you like and then freezes that pan also. then later she puts both together and puts them in the freezer as one "cake". simply let the "cakes" in the two pans thaw just enough so you can get them out of the pans and place one on top of the other and put them in one pan and freeze again. could save some money and probably better than store bought. good luck. reinhard1
i'll call my first one ice cream cake on steroids like some of the burgers i make. one layer with variety of cookies and heath bars crumbled in vanila and the second layer blueberies, rasberies, and strawberies in strawbery ice cream. then put cool whip between the layers and as frosting and freeze.soon as anyone out there has some ideas put them on this thread. good luck. mainbutter
My gf makes ice cream cakes in summer on occasion, pretty much the same as you described. Pie pan, layer of some kind of sweet pie or crumb crust, a few layers of ice cream and other goodies, serve with whipped cream. A little goes a long way, it's VERY rich stuff. reinhard1
one thing about these type of treats are that you can cut off what you need at the time and put it back in the freezer for another time. ya, i know they are rich but tasty. a meatloaf pan would be good also for a smaller version. good luck. reinhard1
i have done all the cooking since i moved out of my parents house at a young age. so after all this time i have never thought of this, nor seen a reciepe for it. proves you learn something new all the time. one reason probably is that i was raised as a meat and potato guy and usualy too stuffed for desert. good luck. Kidd
Another variation would be to make two thin layers of Rice Crispy treats and one layer of Ice Cream. Put Ice Cream between the two layers of Rice Crispies and sprinkle the top with chocolate, caramel or whatever flavor you like.
Dark Cloud
I have made icecream "cakes" before by useing icecream sandwiches(the rectangular ones with vanilla icecream and chocolate cookie-like substance on the top and bottom) to build them. Just put whatever you want in the layers between them, ie - fluff, peanutbutter, oreos, nuts, caramel, jelly, fruit. Once put together you can smear whipped cream all over the outside and pop it in the freezer.A fun project for kids...

pushbutton
A fun project for kids... It sure was! After losing power over a day for the second time in a little over a week we salvaged the ice cream this time thanks to RH1 and this thread. At first he was really confused as to how we were going to make a cake and not use the oven One of the best parts for Jr. was the smashing of the grahm crackers and cookies. We tried to make it a "little more healthy" by adding some blueberries, strawberries, and peaches. Here is the chef checking to see if we got the right mixture. We essentially turned ice cream into finger food by coating each side in a two step process, which made him have to wait way to long till it was done. After hearing "is it done yet" about a hundred times, here is Jr. enjoying the spoils. I think he is ok with not using the oven now.... thanks for the thread everyone!
