Wisconsin bow hunt

Recommended Posts

Does a person need to get drawn like other states to bow hunt in Sconnie? Was thinking about perhaps hooking up with a couple buddies and maybe taking a long weekend over there to bow hunt this fall. Also, does Sconnie have available state lands like MN does? Tips from any of you who have hunted there before?

OTC archery tags for WI and ND will be a hot commodity if they don't fix this mess.

Tons of federal, state and county land in WS. Most of the northern 1/3 of the state is open to public hunting, much of it less than two hours from the Twin Cities.

We have been looking real serious at going over there this year to give it a try. We do alot of wheeling over there and see the abundance of state land to hunt.

Thanks for letting us know that the tags are OTC, I was wondering the same thing.

The main thing is I believe they have a two day wait once the season is started, just like MN. If you don't go for opener & buy it the night before buy it online enough ahead of time.

Not any more. All hunting licenses are effective immediately. That law was changed in the last year or two.

I hunted over by Grantsburg for quite a few years. Never saw anything over 1.5 years old. Quit going there. Maybe things have changed but with the public land comes the onslaught of orange every November then the T seasons, I doubt the size structure is much different and probably not that many deer left either. There was alot of complaining about the decemation of the herd in that area. And now every other tree is down.

If you hunt that area, Good Luck, you are going to need it.

Plenty of public land to hunt in this great state. Also, all licenses are effective immediately, they did away with that 2day PITA rule.

Effective Dates

• All hunting licenses are effective immediately after purchase and with the opening

of the specific seasons. Gun and archery deer licenses may be purchased before and

during any open deer season. All licenses from the 2011 license year expire on March

31, 2012

Wisconsin has plenty of land to hunt. But there also can be a lot of private land parcels interlaced in there. Also, much private land is open that is owned by companies for the timber. They pay a lower tax rate in exchange for allowing public use on the land. It's a matter of doing your homework so you know for certain where you are hunting. The exact location of these parcels are available from several public resources, some are on line. Most wildlife management areas are open to bow hunting. You just have to do your homework if you want to be certain you are not trespassing.
