Dawg Balls?

Recommended Posts

I don't fish Dawgs all that much, but I did have one fish absolutely drill a dawg ball. Never got hooks, which I was pretty grateful for since the leader was all wrapped up on the hook and I was worried about it breaking.

Fouled lures really get attention sometimes. Have caught a couple fish on Burts coming in sideways, and a fouled Believer is one of the best big fish topwaters ever. Had quite a few big Lake of the Woods muskies come paddling in after a Believer spinning on the surface...

I've had one follow.

While I haven't bagged any muskies on a dawg ball, I HAVE caught both bass and pike on crankbaits where a treble snagged my line. I generally think to myself "aw [PoorWordUsage], a wasted cast" and burn it back to the boat for a quick fix, skipping it across the top of the water. It's made for a few surprise explosions and bonus fish.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't SOMEONE out there who has caught a muskie on a dawg ball.

Especially when musky fishing, I try my hardest to make sure EVERY cast is worked as if I expect a follow.

Ah yes, the fouled believer. I call it the tornado topwater, and I have had fish really blow it up, never hooked one though. Can't say I've ever seen a fish on a fouled lure running below the surface though.

Jimmy Lindner says you can skitter a spoon like a 5 of diamonds makes a great top water lure lol on an old video, but after 1 cast he took it off ASAP, sorry James but uh when we're really drunk we watch that clip like 5 times and prove alcohol isn't a depressant.

I guess it is like wacking rigging a muskie lure. This is giving me an idea for tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. A suick may be the trick, hook the leader through the swivel on the middle hook. You may even get a little side to side action.

I seriously regret Googling images of Dawg balls.

What has been seen cannot be unseen...

Rule 34 my friend, rule 34. Think about what you are searching for images of.

And to spare others it's when the middle treble hooks the leader so it comes in sideways, and it fells like reeling in a brick.
