Can anyone tell me what this is? Is this a hybrid Bass of some sort? My 11 year old son caught it, sure looks like a bass....It was really as black looking as it appears here. Everyone on the dock was asking what it was.....

To be honest, I dont see the injury. All fish, bass included can change their color to meet the conditions they are in. When bass have been shallow for a few days and holed up in dark cover, like Lilly pads, heavy weeds or the such, they will turn very dark. What you have there is a normal large mouth bass which has been shallow for a few days. that fish may go deep and you could catch the same bass while walleye fishing and it will be very white in color.

Agree 100% on the color, but in the top pic it looks to have like a rub mark on top of its head or indent of some sort.

That and what looks like a healed gash on the belly.

The lump on the head I think comes from fast growth... the lump on the belly may be from a injury.. MAYBE.. I'm stil; thinking its a normal bass with a skinny belly giving a thin shine..

I have looked at the photo again.. and I am not an expert.. but, still , normal bass.. Maybe.. .MAYBE a small injury near the anus.. doubt it though.. I'm still voting normal bass.

That thing does look like it has a bit of a head bump, if you ask me. Prob not outside of the realm of normal though, especially for a larger fish.

I catch a few carp every year that have a bit of strange head bump on them too.

Bass are dumb, they bang their heads on rocks, therefore the deformation.
