I have left fish out for up to a week in the refrigerator. Just change the water daily and make sure they are kept cold. They will be fine. Enjoy the meal.

i have done the same and the fish still taste great

with all due respect keeping fish in the fridge for a week in any container or area of the fridge is just not a good idea. why keep fish that long in the first place. especialy in water as some have said. that is trouble waiting to happen. moisture breeds bacteria. good luck.

It will taste okay, but I can notice a difference in taste after 2 or 3 days. I wash them with cold water, store them dry in a bag in the fridge on top of "blue ice" bricks to keep them just above freezing temps. I wouldn't think you'd want to leave them in water, but you don't want them to dry out and get tough either. If it goes beyond 2 days, I rehydrate them with some water and store them the same way.

Last night I ate some walleyes that I caught last Thursday. The meat was firm and tasted fresh. If it has been stored at 40 degrees it will keep for a a week or so. If you have any doubts throw them in the freezer and pull them out when you are ready to eat them.

I never store fish in water. I always rinse them off and put them in a zip and pitch in the bottom of the refrigerator. I usually eat them within three days or I freeze them.

Deep your last paragraph is right on except i store fish in a tupper ware container. being in the buisness for 35 years has shown me plastic bags unless vacume bags are not good for refrigeration. now for a couple a days or so fine but not for longer. moisture builds up and and bacteria grows faster.

when i went to food manager classes and learned of all the bacterias and their big names set me strait on storage. from proccesing fresh fish to delivery to a store and to sell them before due date can be as long as 7 days at times. so when you buy them in a store it's not like they were caught yesterday and delivered the next day. our fish were stored in plastic bags packed in ice to eleminate contact with water as much as possible.

when you catch a fish and bring it home, normaly it is cleaned that day and stored properly hopefully and yes they can last a week under cold, clean condition but it's not a good idea to do so and realy no reason to do so. got a fish fry a couple of days away, fine, but i would suggest no longer than that. one more thing with fish, dont freeze fish thaw it out and change your plans and re-freeze the same fish again. this was all taught me during the my years in the buisness and is my opinion on handling fish. good luck.

I'm with RH1 on this topic. I never keep fresh fish in the fridge for more than a day or two, and try to limit moisture.

Many, many years ago as a poor student we lost electricity, after a storm, and a lake trout in my little "freezer" in the fridge didn't stay cold enough. The laker got a bit soft before the power came on, and I made the horrible assumption that it was still OK.

Bad, bad mistake. The fish looked fine, tasted fine, but 24 hours later I regretted it deeply - and for the next 3 days continued to suffer regret (when I wasn't praying for Jesus to take me home). That one encounter made me extremely skittish about keeping fish, and I probably exercise a little more care than the average bear.
