Former Minnesota Wild forward Derek Boogaard was found dead in his Minneapolis apartment on Friday.

According to the Star Tribune, Boogaard, 28, was found by members of his family. The cause of his death was not immediately known.

Boogaard played five seasons for the Wild from 2005-2010 before joining the New York Rangers last season. In his career, Boogaard scored three goals, tallied 13 assists and racked up 589 penalty minutes while building a reputation as one of the best enforcers in the sport.

I bought one of his shirts a few years ago and never put it in on...got it signed by him when he was up here in Duluth a few years ago I always enjoyed watching him enforce...terrible loss that's for sure. RIP....I'm guessing heart problem or brain injury or something along those lines....sure hope it wasn't foul play.

Doesn't sound like there was anything suspicious found. I'm hoping it wasn't self inflicted. They are waiting for a toxicology report.

I hope to hear the details of his story soon. Not sure what family members he would have around here. I know he went out on the town with his brother a few times.

I've met boogie a couple times in bars and what not, I tell ya he holds true on the theory of the biggest and meanest dudes being the nicest guys in person. I'm hoping for no foul play.

Too bad.......too young...... I'm really hopping it wasn't brain injury related, for the sae of the sport.

One of the toughest Enforcers ever to play the game. RIP Boogie.

It will be interesting to see if it has anything to do with his concussion last year or Concussion Meds etc.. It will give the NHL another excuse to take fighting out of the game and put more emphisis on safty..

I hope this isn't the case. Take away fighting from the NHL and there won't be any Boogards, Probert, Domi ect. IMO this is what makes hockey original from other sports. The role of the enforcer serves a purpose in the game. Your right though they have been phasing out the fighting in the game little by little. frown

latest "rumor" I heard was possible drug OD. He was hooked on painkillers for his hurt leg and concussion symptoms. He also has checked himself into rehab due to the being addicted to the pain meds.. Hope this isn't true!! Boogieman was a great player and even greater person, as I met him once and he was kind enough to "chew the fat with me for a good 15 minutes or so.. RIP Boogieman-may you win all your fights in Hockey Heaven!

What is the point of spreading a "rumor" about a persons death? I never get the understand the need to jump to conclusions. This is not like sharing a "rumor" about a hot bite. Show some class and let the facts come out.

If you do a search on the interenet, There's plenty of speculation(twitter) none of them are actual facts but they are out there. I did read that Boogards family has donated his brain to Boston University science to study the effects on a atheletes brain. "The study looks at concussions and other damages to the brain". His autosphy won't come back for atleast a week from what I read.

This isn't a rumor. It was published on one of the news sites that he had entered NHL/NHLPA Rehab.

Just heard the news. That's pretty sad. He donated his brain to research on head trauma. Hopefully this improves things for players in the future. From everything I've heard, he was a great guy on and off the ice.

He'll definitely be missed.

I am still at a loss for words about Derek's death. He is my all time favorite Wild player. I respect the man so much because he knew and did what he had to do to play professional hockey. He wasn't the best skater in the world and worked for half hr-hr each day after practice on just footwork. I think Pierre Marc Bouchard said it best when he said everyone just felt a lot safer on the ice when Boogard was out there. Everything I have ever read on him said he was a stand up guy, one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He wasn't a dirty player and you would never see him throw a punch at a guy after the guy dropped to the ice. He played old time hockey and he did it the right way. I have my own theories about his death but I am not going to say anything as anything said now is just speculation. I will say however that I think the concussion and post concussion depression played a roll.

He loved Minnesota so much that he made it his off season home, and kept living here even when he went to NY to play for the rangers. He had an extremely large amount of respect from everyone in the league. I really liked reading Georges Laraque's tweet about him. Laraque has also come out and blasted the rangers for their treatment of Derek after the concussion.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
