MN 2011

Opening day for me in MN and I could not make it out in the morning had to work. Got out of work around 2pm and headed up hunting. Took a nice bird around 6 pm. I started the afternoon out calling a hen in to about 10yds she came in looking for me fast aggressive.

After she left I had a pheasant come walking past me. This thing was on steroids one of the biggest pheasants I've ever seen. He gets past and into some brush cackles and a bird gobbles so I start calling nothing. I shut up for a bit and he cackles again and the bird gobbles and he is a little closer. I decided not to call at all he already knows where I'm at. After about 20min he steps out about 90 yds struts and steps back into the woods. I give him a couple yelps he comes back and struts but would not leave that edge too far. He leaves and I give him about 30 minutes before I get up to re-set.

I headed down the wood edge and past him to where I think he came from and heard the first gobble. I get back further in the woods and give a few calls nothing. After about 25 minutes I can walking I could hear it for a couple minutes. After hearing the waling long enough I figured it was a turkey. I get turned and setup out pops turkey. I could not tell with some of the cover right away if it was a long beard. He turns broadside and now see the rope hanging. Was a little further then I wanted but dropped him right where he stood. Only had the head to shoot at and man did I ever smack him. 23lb 10inch beard 1 inch spurs. MN tag check. Next week to WI.

Been trying to tell you guys that for years. After all the frustration of trying to kill them with the bow, the "get even factor" of the shotgun is awesome! grin It's payback time!
