Vikings 2nd Round Picks...

While I agree, we need O-Line, I think they have to address the D-Line first. Then maybe fill in Oline later in the draft, as its one position that is deep. At this point, I hope we get Asomugha in FA, as passing on Prince will be a HUGE mistake otherwise!

Wandering,

What's wrong with Guion, Kennedy and Evans...they can and have all ripped it up when they get the chance to play. I disagree with those saying d-line is a priority right now...o-line is another story!!

Maybe 1 of those 3 may end up being a legit starter. We have 2 openings now, and a third opening for 4 weeks at the beginning of the year, more then likely. That means we have 1 starter on our D-line from last year, and some good second string fillers for the other 3 positions. We need to fill the hole now.

If o-line wasnt a deep position this year, and even a few good options in FA, I would have to agree, and take o-line in the second, but as it stands, there happen to be plenty of options other then spending our 2nd pick on one now. If we had a 3rd pick, I would say it doesnt really matter. But come the 4th round, there wont be much for d-linemen to draft, and you wont pick up anyone good in FA, we might as well keep Edwards, which wont happen!

Hey pass me what your smoking pikestabber, Sullivan is one of the worst centers in the league, he gets mauled. I'd give Mckinnie another year with a new blocking scheme.

Anyone happen to see what the Lions are rollin with at DT now?

I'm down with the kid from Penn State forsure if he's available.

I hear ya he's not been playing good he's been a stain, Sullivan gets mauled though we haven't got any push since he's been a starter, he's just to small.

You could move both Mckinnie and Loadholt to guard and they'd be maulers, or move Loadholt to guard, move Mckinnie to right tackle where he doesn't have to deal with speed rushers. Draft that center then find a new LT.

+1. I don't think McKinnie is without some merit, he's just not LT material (too slow, gets beat on the outside way too much, and he compensates for this by holding and jumping off-sides). Agree, Sullivan is not cut out for this level. I would hope we get at least two new OL in the draft, but we have defensive needs that can't be ignored either. Too many holes, not enough Bondo! Fingers crossed.

I have a feeling the Vikes will target their O-Lineman thru free agency this year...there are a ton of quality offensive lineman out there that need to find a new home.

Rudolph was a solid pick in the 2nd...not suprising they match up the #1 TE in the draft with a rookie qb...good move by the Vikes.

I would think they will be looking at CB, S, OLB and OL from here on out.

More like ruuuuuuuunnnnnnnn Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudolph, with 4.75 40 time, which is likely generous.

Rudolph will put up decent numbers catching passes underneath the prevent D, as we'll often be down by 2 TDs at the half due to the holes at CB and S. The opposition will play deep and concede the underneath game and because Ponder lacks a downfield arm.

That's if Ponder can get a pass off against the likes of Detroit with Suh and Fairley pressuring up the middle.

Looks like Sunday afternoons will be spent fishing come Fall.

Don't forget about Corey Williams in the middle, and Cliff Avril and Kyle Vanden Bosch comin on the ends! smile

don't worry, you can just go 5 wide and pick apart the secondary all day long

Everyone keeps praising the Lions for taking Fairley. While he has yet to play one single snap in the NFL. What says he isn't the player all you Lions fans are hoping he is? Why did he fall to 13 after being projected as a top 10 pick? Heck some people had him as the top talent in the WHOLE DRAFT! Yet he still feel to 13. I was quick to jump on the, "[PoorWordUsage] Christian Ponder" bus. But I haven't even given the kid a chance to take a snap. Heck, I haven't even watched any video of him playing any ball at Florida State either.

I don't think a 'fall' from #10 to #13 is that far of a fall... I think drafting 'up' 13 to 28 total spots is a huge climb. The best I saw anyone put Ponder was 25th overall and most had him closer to 40th pick. The Vikings fanned big time not taking Fairly. I agree he is not proven and may have some work ethic issues, but has a better chance coming out as a Rookie, starting and contributing to the team this year than Ponder does. Rarely does a Rookie QB come out and have any sort of success. A good defense will keep you in and win you more games than a good offense. Heck even Dilfer has a Super Bowl ring! They won not because of him being the QB, but in spite of him being the QB! McMahon was an O.K. QB back when Chicago won... but their defense won that game. Even the teams with great QBs that win the SB, their defense usually turns it into a one sided affair.

They will need to chase down a Veteran (the thought of any team chasing McNabb makes me laugh) to get them through a season again as usual. They could've had Fairly to strengthen an aging defense and immediatley making a questinable secondary better... and picked up a good prospect of a QB in round 2... Dalton, Ponder or Mallet would have been there. they all have their issues, they all give you the same potential this April. They all need to ride the pine and learn over the next few years like the Packers had done with Rogers. Rudolph is a stud, good pick there... so it is some sort of compense that they got him in the 2nd. I think a C is warranted.

I'm a Packer fan and am still scratching my head that they took Sherrod in the 1st. He was projected as a 4-7th round pick... I like the OL pick... just thought there was better value than he.

We always have to wait and see... most players are 50-50 if they work out no matter what round they go in.

Hello! There is no way Ponder would have made it to the Vikings at 43. That is laughable. I'm not really happy with the Ponder pick but the Vikings tried to trade back and couldn't get back to a spot where they could still get him. He was gonna get picked within the next 6 picks after #12 according to league sources.

People talk about Ponders weak arm and then say we could have drafted Dalton later. Daltons arm is far worse than Ponders AND he came from a gimmick offense.

Lmao. Sherrod in the 4th? You need to find a new draft site.

I really wish the Vikings would have picked Prince.

The rest of the Vikings draft was spot on.

Never claimed to be a pro on picking or knowing much about College athletes... that's why i went to NFL HSOforum to get the pre-pick analysis on each player before or right after they were picked... not some draft board where it is just another guys opinion.

They did rank them where they felt they would go in the draft... Ponder was in the 20's - 40's...

Sherrod was ranked as an early day three pick. Does not sound like the type of O-line player the Packers would go after according their pre draft analysis. Sounds like a great run blocker, but said he has issues with pass protection and bull rushes... last I checked the Packers rely on pass protection and have at best a marginal run game.... not my opinions, just what I read.

Next year I will confer with you as to the recommended draft board so we do not have a disagreement issue again...:-) HA!! I have no clue nor proclaim to know where guys should go... I was just posting what I read...

Good Luck!

Ken
