Sportshow - what are you getting

I really don't plan on buying anything, but I know I'll end up walking away with a few items. I took care of most of my needs last year, so really just any lures I find deals on. Might order a few things for the dock though, as it could use some maintenance.

I'll be shopping casting rods to go with a reel I picked up over the winter. I was leaning toward the Veritas but I also heard that Dobyn's has a pretty good show deal too so I'll check them out before I make a decision.

I am also hoping to scrounge up one of those new bluegill traps that Koppers came out with. I haven't seen them in the stores at all, but everyone has the frogs. grin

be sure to ask for show specials.. Some of the retailers are going as low as I have ever seen... crazy.

+1- I was toying around with the idea of trying the new Frabill Stormsuit (2010 Icast winner). I've got GuideWear that I'm happy with, but was still entertaining the thought. I asked if they (Thorne Bros) had show special on the Stormsuit....well, it was a no-brainer. Very good deals down there this year.

I'd also suggest stopping at the MN Teen Challenge Fishing Challenge Booth (#822, right "behind" the Thorne Bros. nets display. Great opportunity to make a difference and have a great time.

Great place to buy rods and reels, GPS/fish finders, boats, docks, etc. I was looking for the waterproof Plano or Falco containers, soft plastics and terminal tackle but came away empty handed. Bought some boat cleaner, though, that was "exciting" . . . eek

If I make it im gonna get my knife sharpened smile

Where do you get knives sharpened at the show?

I was at the show yesterday. I purchased a 7'2" Crucial Ex-heavy for casting for northerns, a Sealine 47 for lead core trolling, a couple spools of Suffix, a musky lure, and renewed my subscriptions to Midwest Outdoors and Minnesota Sportsman.

I might be going back tomorrow. I'll probably pick up another reel and some lures. Maybe sharpen some knives. I would like to know where that's done.

Deitz- Thanks for your help with the rod!

I love the sports show.

I'm going down tomorrow. Also looking for a lakemaster chip on sale for my new 798. What did you find them going for? I might grab a good rain jacket as well.

Reeds had the HB MN chip for $99, didn't check anywhere else.

Saw a HB rep showing some units and was told they are close to releasing a cool new waypoint management system as a free download to the unit. Love my Bird and the free updates.

As stated above, plus Marine General & Thorne Bros all had the chip for $99. You might have to ask because Reeds were marked $110.00, but I got it for $99. Make sure you get v2 wherever you buy it.

i was there wednesday, made a deal with artistic anglers to do my walleye from this winter! 6 to 7 months they told me though.

i also picked up the crankcaddy. pretty sweet boxes for cranks! the small box holds 42 #5's, med about 30 #7's and the large about 12-16 #14 husky jerks. i took three regular boxes put em in these three and they are less than half full!

check em out!

Blackjack- Heard it was in the 20% range.

BPbob- Good to know someone has them! I don't get to FF very often, haven't been there since Nov/Dec sometime. I'll have to stop by the St Cloud store when I'm out that way next month - they always seem to have something that no one else does.

Lots of great deals at the show. Some that I ran across that are worth noting;

- Reeds Hummingbirds, big discount, comes with free lakemaster chip & ram mount

- New Frabill suits (lots selling them), took every ounce of will power not to buy one. Got their SnoSuit this year and love it.

- Joe's/Reeds, buy the new Pflueger Patriarch spinning reel and get a new Fenwick HMG spinning rod and Pflueger wind shirt for free. (best deal at the show IMO. That reel seems awesome compenents are magnesium & titanium so a 30 size (similar to Shimano 2500) is only 6.3oz. Joes will spool it with line for free.

- 61 Marine (Cottage Grove) Couple friends bought new Alumacrafts (Navigator & Competitor from them. Saved literally thousand! Great poeple to work with, would strongly recommend checking them out if you are lookin for a deal on a new boat, pontoon, or RV. Talk to Al or Matt

Artistic Anglers does a great job, but they are very busy. I've had an order in for my walleye replica since September and Matt told me it would still be a couple months. They are just now starting orders that were placed last July.

But they are busy for a reason... they do great work.
