At the Vegas show this week I ran into a guy who loves the older Aqua-Vu VMS (from like 6 years ago.) Here are some images he took with it in WI.

Now tell me if you would have known the crappies were there without a camera.

Spook,
I am ashamed to say that I have only been out a few times. A couple of trips up the Gunflint: 36 walleyes, half-dozen smallies and a few pike including one 44’’er, but that’s about it. It’s kind of tough with a pregnant wife and a three-year-old at home. I am saving up my brownie points for this fall! How about you, any good stories to tell?

Big Z just got himself a new Matthew’s. If it were up to him, bow season would start tomorrow!

Scumfrog,
The machine needed a new electrical pod and several hours shop time to drain all fluids. Unfortunately, it will never be the same: these things are not meant to be driven under water!

Thaught about geetin one a couple yrs ago but at the price I figurerd I'd rent one for twenty just to see what I thaught of em. I didn't really like it was in a clear lake and couldn't see much. After seein these pics might reconsider maybe they've gotten better.

bae501, I was actually able to take screen shots off of the Aqua-Vu videos I made. I'll bring the VCR out on the boat with me and I'll record x amount of footage. Then I'll hook up my VCR to my computer and I'll take screenshots off of my videos and I'll post the pics here.

2dalake,

All Aqua-Vu's have a Video-Out port. So you can connect a camcorder to them, as long as the camcorder has a video Input.

So have they solved the problem with the Aquaviews where its hard to get it pointed in the right direction? The couple of times that I've seen them used, you waste lots of time turning the cord trying to find your bait.

I mainly only use mine in the winter. It really isnt that hard to set it up. All I do is attach a depth weight, let that down then drop the camera and point it at the right direction.

The only bad thing is if you want to move alot it gets to be a real hassle. Or if you have a hand auger going through 24"+ of ice servral times every move can be real tiring.

I've learned a ton from using an underwater camera. From what kind of bottom it really is to the kind of fish, and in the winter-how the fish react to different baits. The coolest thing I saw was a northern nail a sucker minnow.

For total ease look at the Marcum 460 it just came out the other day. The camera resides in a housing so you don't have to spin the cable...the 460 can be rigged to view horizontal or verticle... it has a RCA video output so if you have a video camera with input you can record the footage....this can be addicting. As said earlier you can take stills from the video once you've digitized the video.

There are advancements that make it easier to see the direction your camera is facing. For instance the smart-Vu technology shows you which way your camera is facing in relation to the monitor. That and this year we will be introducing a very cool new camera that I can't say much about except that finding your bait won't be a problem anymore.
