Fastest smart phone?

Recommended Posts

Before deciding on my new smart phone (used to run b berry)

I tried all they had @ the provider. The one I chose was one I knew very little about-HTC desire. Every other brand had glitches when signing into forums, running flash, etc.

The speed that it loads pages was miles faster than all the other smart phones. I would say its right at dsl speed or very close. I can load 3 pages in the time it takes my wifes iPhone4 to load one. About twice as fast as the daughters Dr.x

It must have a good processor-or I got lucky and got a good one.:)

Anyone else have this model?

The Hummingbird processor for HTCs phones are pretty fast. However, the fastest currently on the market is the Motorola Atrix 4G. On WiFi, it will smoke any other phone currently available. More phones sporting the dual core processors though will be hitting the market over the next month or 2.

I have an HTC Droid Incredible. Love it- however, the battery is HORRIBLE. Hopefully yours is better. I joined an Incredible forum and everyone is complaining about it.

you just need to play with your settings. I know my HTC windows phone has awesome settings for saving battery

Turn off wi-fi, GPS, and bluetooth and turn down the screen brightness would be the first things to extend battery life.

Battery life on my EVO would be my biggest gripe coming from a Blackberry, but the BB didn't have a 4"+ screen either.

I've learned to work around the battery life. I can easily get a full day out of my X. That is with a mixture of calls, texts and some web browsing. I built a redneck charging port/stand and plug it in and use it for my alarm clock every night.

There are a lot of things you can do to save battery life, but it comes down to which of those things you utilize or not (Facebook, Weather, Location updates). But it's nice having some of those options and that's part of the reason I bought a phone like this.

That reminds me....check the frequency that applications self-update as well. Things like the Finance and News apps run in the background and will update every 'x' minutes/hours. I turn those things off.

Another thing that will affect battery life is the Operating System not being up to date. Every release of a new OS usually has several changes and options that dramatically affect battery life for the better.

First go into display settings, set it to auto adjust. Most phones if not all have a light sensor that brightens the screen or darkens the screen. This will save TONS of battery life vs having a always bright screen.

Set the rate at which data comes in, known as push internet. I know in my windows phone (rooted so it might be different stock) I could set what data is being used. For instance how often email comes through. I could disable all force data on the phone when the screen is shut off and have it recheck at a set time rate. For instance every 10 minutes.

Disable Wifi, GPS and only use them when you want to use them. I uninstalled all applications that I rarely used that would always be running in the background.

Make sure your wallpaper is just a picture, not a live wallpaper with motion.

So basically here is a check list.

Turn down the screen brightness. Keep it at an acceptable level.

Adjust screen shut-off time or use the power key to turn off the screen immediately when you’re done using it.

Turn off some and/or all push notifications if not needed (e-mail, facebook, MySpace, twitter, etc).

Turn off live wallpapers or anything else “live”.

Limit speakerphone use.

Turn off haptic feedback/vibrations.

Turn off key tones.

Keep ringer volume and ear piece volume as low as you personally can.

Use wifi when possible over 3G/4G.

Limit game playing.

Watch your camera use, especially if using the flash.

Use a task-killer? This has been debated and is up in the air. I only suggest using one if you are having trouble closing programs or have really poor battery life.

Watch out for applications that are constantly updating or using data.

Limit game playing.
easier said than done! what I am supposed to do when the next wave of angry birds levels get added! Sure I have them all mastered today, but as soon as they add more, it will be hard to limit any game playing time.

rundrave, you have 3 stars on all of them? That's what I've been trying to achieve and it's one heck of a challenge.

As far as battery life, why even buy a smartphone if you have disable everything? It's like buying new boat with a 300hp motor and then fishing on Calhoun all year.

That's what I initially thought as well but if you're not using Bluetooth, GPS, or Wi-Fi why not just shut them off and use only as needed? I don't need to walk around all day with those three services turned on and not using them, burning up battery for no reason. Same goes for the update interval of the various apps. If I want to check the news using the news app, it only takes a few seconds to manually refresh. Otherwise 98% of the time it's doing it on it's own when I'm not checking the news and wasting battery.

I agree though, it's a little frustrating that you have to be such a miser in this day and age of technology, but the tradeoff is a larger battery which means more weight, bigger in size, etc. I'll sacrifice a few bells and whistles to keep the device as small as possible.

Yep, pick & choose. The flip-side for me is that I use and or indulge in all those settings PI listed in some fashion. That is where I agree with Dtro. If you use it, the value of a smartphone will come. grin Also the one things I have been doing is to make sure to do a full cycle (below 20%) battery charge off of a wall charger once a week and when I have the option. Supposedly this is a true charge (rates and values) and amazing is much quicker than usb or 12v charging. There is a difference is the time it takes to get to 100%, so I have to give this some credit. Also I rummage through my apps and take inventory every couple weeks to once a month. If I really do not use it or it is not what I thought it was it is removed. If I use it and want it, it stays. The back ground processes of some apps can be the #1 cause of shorten battery life. If I am letting this happen I want only the apps that I need or want. I took some amount of pride in just going app crazy with my first smartphone, so been their and done that. grin

Also just for common sense of electronics & batteries, during the summer months I avoid and pretty much do not charge my smartphone in a parked car. I know over cooking the battery and brining it to a point it displayed overheated on my 3G cause what I felt was a 50% drop in battery life over just a couple weeks and seeing the "over heated" message for the first time.

As far as the fastest phone, IMHO they are all fast. You could break them down bare-bones and get one that is faster on paper, but only by milliseconds. Something you will never notice with the human eye.

Once you put your first app on the phone, the variables change and IMO the faster the phone processes is based on what is being processed and running.

All the suggestions are basically standard procedure, but battery charge is still not lasting a whole day if used in moderation.

If you go under Settings, Applications, Battery Use, you will find out that the largest resource user is the Android operating system.

If phone is left alone in standby it will last a couple of days. I tried many possibilities with several phones, from HTC HD2, Nexus One, MyTouch3g and 4g, Incredible, Vibrant S.

If the phone has the Power Control Widget it is easier to shut off/on the features needed or not.

it is one heck of a challenge but the frustration led me to take an easier route and look for answers on youtube lol. that and I wanted to find all the golden eggs and in my search found lots of walk throughs

even with the answers i still had a heck of a time getting 3 stars on all the levels. Its just that addicting that I couldnt stop until I had 3 stars on all the levels.

I have the HTC EVO, and it is great. It seems like the internet is about 10x's faster than my former BB's and Treo's.

The only downfall to the EVO is battery life. I use my phone a ton, so the stock battery would be running low by the early afternoon. I switched to the big Seidio battery, and can easily go 14 hours. IMO these phones should come with that battery.

As we speak, I'm tethered to my phone via PDA Net. It's a great app!

There is no doubt about it, the more you use them the faster the battery will die. Or if you spend a lot of time in areas with weak signal strength that will kill a battery pretty quick too.
