How old is your auger?

I have a Tas, made in Japan. I aquired it at a auction sale of a neighbor. He bought it new in 1971 from my father in law who bought 3 and resold two, I still use it today and it will drill holes with the best of them. That makes it 40 years old and is the only power auger I own.

I have a Jiffy from the 1960's bought it for about $50 20 years ago. It has been a great auger. It always starts well. I converted it from the one arm bandit to a two handle. I did the work and Jiffy provided the parts at no charge. This year I had the carburator rebuilt. I doubt I would have had to do that if I drained the gas every year but I don't so over time it causes problems.

I bet if you look at people who are using augers over 20 years old 90% are Jiffy's.

Like people have stated there is no saying the new Jiffy's will last as long as the old ones but you can say that with any model.

Maybe someone can tell me how old my Electra is. When I bought it, Electras were brand new on the market. That was LONG before anything had batteries. I remember hesitating because I never like buying anything new on the market. I went with electric because I was tired of drilling holes by hand, I had seen too many people at that time trying to start their gas augers, and I didn't want the exhause smell in my fishouse. But I did buy it and it has worked flawlessly every time I touch the button. The only down side is that it's slow compared to the gas augers. But I have time.

I got about 20 years on my Jiffy legend and it is in need of a new drill. The reason I bought it was for redrilling holes in the permy. I didn't know how well the others out there would hold up to the abuse of redrilling. After using a buddies Strikemaster I really like how light they are and will probably upgrade to one of those in the future and keep the old jiffy for reopening holes in the permy.
