hot dogs under a tip up

I've heard of using a chunk of hot dog under a tip up for pike. Anyone try this? Does it work? How big of a chunk? Cooked or uncooked?

Skin-on or Oscar Meyer? Does a brat work better for Sconni pike? (J/K!)

I've seen folks put hot dogs on somebody elses tip-up for the laughs, but never on their own tip-up.

Back when I spent some time running tip ups for pike I heard/read about doing that. Something like 10 years ago.

Well, yeah, I had to try it. I didn't let anyone see me put that Oscar Mayer on the quick strike though. I figured, why not? I was fishing large dead suckers on the bottom then and thought maybe the smell would get one to pick it up. I picked the standard O/M brand because they seemed the greasiest and fattiest.

Well, the dead sucker outfished the wiener just as suspected so I just ate the rest.

It depends on where you are fishing. In Minnesota the dog needs to be tipped with a strong mustard. If your in Canada french dejon (sp)is better. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently Pike are smarter than people. You know what they put in those things.....

Make a tail on it by making multiple cuts on one end.

You'll end up with a Tube Jig.
