Garbage Already!

It isn't garbage until the person who put it there leaves the area. That person could be there for 10 hours with junk all around him/her but a ticket can't be given unless that person leaves. The other problem is proving who left it there. Unless someone sees the person dropping the garbage and leaving it there, the officers can't convict the offender.

I wish I knew the answer to solving all this fishing related garbage! It really burns my cheeks! I know that an officer spending a whole day in one place watching someone who may leave garbage is not the answer!

Littering on the lakes isn't so bad, it just sinks to the bottom when the ice melts right?

whistle

That's the entire point! that screws up the lakes! I bought my entire ice house due to the money I made picking up cans last year on Demontreville last year alone. I totally agree that the fines should be raised to a grand or more.

Instint garbage bag ....get the point... these people on the lakes leaving the garbage are just plain lazy.

"The DNR or law enforcement needs to crack down on this. Set a CO or officer up on shore with binoculars. Record the plate #s or DNR #s of the people leaving trash. Mail out a ticket. People need to learn to be responsible for themselves. This irritates me to no end."

Or maybe the 1, 10, 100 other guys on the lake could grow a pair and tell the litterbug to take his $hi+ with him. Or at the very least get his license # and be willing follow up with a CO.

Why is it that we expect everyone else to solve our problems? There are about 125 game wardens, including the admin, in 84 counties. How could they possibly cover every lake? What makes one lake more important than another?

WE need to help by gathering some of the information and then being willing to follow up on it.

the CO's up here are starting to crack down on urinating on the ice. but i wished they would do more on the litter end, i mean what would be the diff. between a wild or(demesticated) animal urinating on the ice? cetainly they have no way of paying a $60 ticket!

You cant pee on the ice????? really!

tsande00, I hope you're not serious!!!

I just got back from Owasso, where someone left a busted lawn chair out on the ice!! We picked it up along with their other trash. Yesterday on Blue, we picked up people's 1# propane bottles and buddy heater cardboard box.

PEOPLE... LEAVING GARBAGE ON THE ICE IS THE SAME AS DUMPING GARBAGE IN THE LAKE IN THE SUMMER!!!!

I agree more fines would help. And, wouldn't that provide the DNR with more funding! The last couple of boundary water trips I've taken have shown evidence of the same litterbugs... Smack these people with HEFTY fines and see how they respond!

That being said... if the DNR, sheriffs and local do-gooders can't do anything, should we contact our politicians? Mayors should be upset at the littering of their lakes! District representatives should care about water quality!

If politicians won't respond... let's get newstations involved. I bet with enough complaints and footage of the widespread garbage, 5 eyewitness news would be all over police and DNR not enforcing littering laws!!!!!

I will be calling channel 5 with this idea, I hope you all do the same! Lets hold our law enforcement accountable for enforcing littering laws!!! We all see the signs- "up to $700 fine" START handing them out!!!

I said it many times before, and once again I'll say it...Sportsman Need To Police Sportsman.

Make a stand, educate sportsman when you can, point out bad behavior, pick up after them and do it when they see you doing it...and shame them into seeing others do not do what they do.

If need be, file a report to the DNR or police, and show up to see they get convicted if it finds it's way to court.

Shaking our heads and pointing our fingers does nothing to resolve the problem, lead by means of an aggressive example.

One potential problem with getting the liberal media involved is the backlash on ALL fisherman. Granola eaters are always looking for a reason to blame us for ruining "Mother Earth". We may end up having to defend ourselves even though we are the ones that are sick of the lazy mutts that can't clean up after themselves.

Relax Freedom81 he was kidding.

I thought this was an Ice Fishing Forum too. Oh well I guess I will just say it because it seems I have to every year: I hate litter, I hate the people who do it, I hate having to pick up after everyone, and I hate seeing the same thread every year with basically the same posts when all you are doing is preaching to the choir. There, thread closed and and now we can disuss things like: How many hoels can you get out of one 1 lb tank of propane with the the new jiffy auger? Now that is a thread you can sink your teeth into... oh wait I see there is one already, have fun complaining about the everyone else's trash issue.

i think it's important to have a thread of this nature. if anything i hope some of you that dont pick up trash on the ice will in the future. yes there is little we can do to change peoples habits, but make it a habit to pick up at least what you see around you. i wish there was more enforcement with this issue, heck the dnr could hire me part time and i would love to hand out the tickets. good luck.

I get it Reinhard, I just get a little annoyed with some of the posts. I think that you could put all of the past years theads right next to eachother and you could play "match the posts". I just get the feeling when most people are venting about trash they are looking at people in this forum instead of who the real offenders are. I wish I could just make this thread invisible so I am not tempted to open it each time I see a new post and then end up posting another post of how I am annoyed with the posts, make sense? Anyway, about that Jiffy thread...

About 20 years ago a bud and I went up to Pelican Lake by Orr for 2 days of fishing. Two truck loads of guys from Foley, were there when we arrived. Beer cans, candy wrappers, booze bottles laying all over. We picked up most and put in a pile near us but left what was right near their fish houses. About 4 o'clock up pull 2 snowmobiles, 2 game wardens. asked us how we were doing, we had a few crappies. Was the garbage ours? We said nope, theirs. Long story short, 6 guys and 2 kids, and they all got tickets for littering and 110 crappies over the limit. (Kids got tickets too.) They had false bottoms in some of their 20lb propane tanks and the tanks were filled with fish! Some jerk-baits do get caught!!!!

i am aware of the tip line and would have no problem with that. i have called law enforcement before on outdoor issues and been a witness. so it's nothing new to me. same goes for my brother who is a retired cop, and his son who is a cop. as a matter of fact i fish with cops a lot of times. good luck.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
