We cant jump right to May .. we would miss the early season river walleyes and spawning crappies.. Some of the best fishing of the year is before the opener.. and coming soon.

I'm so hard up for open water that I'm going to take the *significant other* to PA in mid-late march to early april to enjoy the early season crappies and walleyes that are open year around on a certain reservoir.

With any luck, the lakes where I live (northern MN) will be ice free when we get back.

Is it March yet?

Hey guys, it's still to early to get this antsy! According to last years calendar, I was still icefishing on April 19th, of course I needed a canoe to make it out to the ice. We've got a ways to go yet, my first cast of the year will probably be on the stream trout opener.

Lets hope for some warm temps. I remember a few years back, fishing open water in South Dakota January 19. Of course the next day it froze up again, but many years mid February. It could happen soon.

Get the auger out and just start drilling holes untill there is no ice left!
I do it all winter long but I don't seem to get anywhere.Maybee if the two of us are hard at it we can get rid of winter all together!
I am dying for open water.I untarped the River Pro yesterday and its calling my name!

I'm with you imbass! I just purchased my first boat today. They'll probably find me dreaming at the console in my driveway a few times before I can get it out on the Minnesota. I've come to know and love ice this year but my new toy just screams for open water.

Yeah. I'll put in for that. ::hears the boat calling his name in storage right now. Can't wait to hear that outboard fire up for the first time. That has to be one of the most satisfying sounds of fishing; even for a lil 20 horse nothing can beat hearing it rev up for the first time in 5 months

Sometimes when ice fishing gets old, I head down to the power plant and try for panfish. It's like having a Hot Pocket when what you really want is a large Stuffed Crust with sausage and mushrooms...

Looks like the MN river here in Mankato is already starting to open up. Might even have to go pitch some jig with fatheads looking for a white bass.

Just back from the mighty mississippi felt good to fish out of the boat. Caught a couple eyes they were just icing on the cake
