0 Palerider77
The yamahammer has a great tiller handle. Either is a good choice, I like my yamaha.
0 Northlander
Mike I keep telling ya go with that Yamaha man. Oh and call me I will be on Vermilion tomorrow.Oh the Honda is suerly not worth the extra cash.
0 PerchJerker
I'd also go Yamaha over Honda and wouldn't think twice about it. Both are good motors but the Yamaha would be my 1st choice.
0 AaronM
You can't go wrong. Pick the motor with the closest dealer and don't look back.
0 Jim Almquist
I own a Yamaha but would have no problems owning a Honda but if it means to much out of pocket money go with the Yamaha.
0 Sherpa
My dad has a Yamaha 25hp 4-stroke and it has been absolutely great for him. I don't think you will go wrong with the Yamaha.
0 marine_man
I've always been partial to Yamaha...In my opinion I'd go with whichever is cheaper.. it's tough to go wrong.marine_man
0 Mike Stark
i can get the yamaha for 1200 less than the honda. the honda does have 3cyl. where the yamaha only has 2cyl. what effects does one less cyl. have?
0 Shorelunch
Can't go wrong with either. I have 225 and 8hp Hondas and would buy again. It would depend on dealer, service and price.
0 Mike Stark
there are both honda and yamaha dealers close to ely. i have heard good things about both.
0 S.D. Ice Angular
I would also go Yamaha!!But I think both are good quality
0 cranelake
Currently have a 2 8 40 225 yamaha. Had a 90 and 40 honda. All of which had zero issues. Gotta give the edge to yami - especially in cold weather conditions. The hondas i had seemed to be much more cold blooded in the fall and spring of the year. Not knocking the honda they were good motors. As far as 3 vs 2 cyl as you mentioned the 2 cyl will most likely be lighter and can be a benefit if you fish by yourself with less weight with yourself and the motor in the back of the boat. I sure wish they offered efi in the 25hp from yami or honda that alone makes a diiference in colder temps. Goodluck on your decision can't go wrong but i don't see 1200 bucks of "betterness" in the honda. Cheers!
0 Mike Stark
the honda actually weights 10lbs less.
0 marine_man
I took a look at the specs as well... things are really stacking up in Honda's favor... there's always the old adage, there's no replacement for displacement.. Honda wins that oneThe weight difference is also interesting.. especially considering Honda's is a 3 cylinder. Honda wins that one as wellAs previously mentioned, Honda has a 3 Cylinder, Yamaha has a 2 cylinder... the 3 cylinder will give you smoother idling... another Honda win...Price factors in... Yamaha was cheaper.. but the performance differences might make that negligible.marine_man
0 Mike Stark
it is a tough call. 1200 bucks is a lot of bucks!
0 cranelake
Mike- whats your gut feeling on this ?
0 Mike Stark
my gut says go with the honda...my bank account says go with the yamaha
0 cranelake
I've always went with the gut feeling. Makes it tougher though in this case. Rest assured they'll both be performers and last you a long time - fingers crossed. You'll make the right choice
0 buddha
I own Honda but either engine is excellent.
0 Mike Stark
MM,Do you think that the difference in specs would be that noticable while running the motor?
0 marine_man
I think you're going to notice the difference in displacement to a certain extent, but mostly when fully loaded with people or gear.I think you may notice the smoother idling to a certain extent... it won't be huge, but you may notice the difference. The weight difference is negligible... The difference in weight in the pocket book? That's tough to say. I think you'll be happy with either motor... they're both bullet proof... if you're planning on keeping this long term, as much as I hate to not say Yamaha, I think Honda provides a couple of opportunities that Yamaha can't right now. I'm guessing if you were able to look at the actual HP output of these two motors Honda would get the nod.marine_man
0 Mike Stark
this is something i plan on keeping for a long time...that is why im investing in a new motor. decisions, decisions. if im not mistaking, honda has a little better warranty as well. 5yr standard vs 3yr standard. 0 Mike Stark
i just got off the phone with a local honda dealer. looks like it would be a difference of 800 bucks.
0 FYGR8
Neither one will ever give you a problem, so service is probably not a big issue. I own a Honda, but would not hesitate to buy a Yamaha. In my situation, my next will probably be a Yamaha since Honda jumps from 50 to 75 and my Pro-V will take a 60.
