Stilt Sandpiper, Dowitcher sp. in Duluth.

Recommended Posts

Two recent shorebird images from Duluth, MN.

The first features a stilt sandpiper catching some zzzz's. Birds will tuck one leg up under to preserve body heat while they rest. You can just barely see the little claws on the tucked up leg, as they protrude from the belly.

The second features a dowitcher on the move. Both species are migrating south from their breeding grounds in the arctic.

Both images shot with a SonyA300, sigma50/500, iso400, f9, 1/640, hand held, manual exposure/spot metered, cloned dust spots, USM.

Comments and critiques welcome.

Regards,

Shawn Zierman.
