I like to put hook right behind sucker in the cartilage they have there then right back around through the body, seems to keep them from balling up and keeps fish like perch from popping them off my hook and have lindy rigged same leech for 2 hours (fish weren't cooperating) still extremely lively.

Tried through the sucker and the perch pop em off on my lake too often, I do this for everything slip bobber rigging, lindy rigging, on jigs, etc.

hope this helps

absolutley right under the sucker for jigging; however, if you like to drift/troll with spinners hook them on the other end opposite the sucker. it's really cool what happens to it when a walleye smacks it. the leech goes flying up the line, and you can use it again. would have never believed it until a guide showed me how well it worked. it's supposed to reduce line twist as well.

good luck! leeches are also referred to as MN Gold! (wonder why)
