Sorry but I just have to say somthing..... It bugs the heck out of me when I see pictures of people who caught a fish and they hold that fish about ten feet away from their body in the picture.... I mean come on..... We all know that you did not just catch a 8 foot long, 15 pound perch..... Sorry again for ranting but I just need to get that off my chest....

I don't like seeing big pike held by the head. It can cause ligament damage. I don't know about cats. Seems their heads are so well muscled and boned that it wouldn't, but I don't know.

earlier last year there were some excellent suggestions on how to best photograph your trophy fish I believe Derek Johnson started it out maybe we should find it in the archives and repost it

on 2-11-03.

I have seen people take pictures with the fish laying next to a rod, net, or paddle. This showes the size of the fish in comparison to another object. This way you don't have to worry about how you look in the picture either. A 15" crappie looks nice laying next to a small ice rod.

I know what you mean.
I got all kinds of flack for the walleye that was posted on the main page from people accusing me of holding that fish out when in fact I was holding it tightly to my body, elbow bent, etc, etc...lol. We never did weigh it, but Rick thought it was close to 10lbs. The pic was taken by Toad and Jeff Beckwith also took one.
There are some pics however that it is quite obvious that the person holding the fish has their arm out as far as possible to make the fish look bigger. But hey, if they want to look like fools, let em. No reason to get all bent out of shape about it though...lol

When I posted this topic I was kind of joking around..... From now on I am going to hold out the smallest fish I catch as far as I can or even better I will increase the size of the fish on my PC..... Funny story, I had a picture of a nice size northern on my PC once. I wanted to see how real it would look if I made it bigger. Well the other day I as looking at the actual picture and I could not remember if that was the fake one or not, it ended up not being the real one but that might be one more way people can do it.... Like all of the spam I get says, "Increases the size of your, Fish?"......

My girlfriend caught a 9-10lb Pike and I did the same thing with it. I made it into a 20+ pounder. I printed it out on photo paper and it looks pretty cool. I showed it to a couple of my friends and they couldn't believe my girlfriend caught that big of a fish......And its out to get mounted!

That was a great fish and will attest that that one went close to 10. Thanks for setting up the thankyou thread on the muskie bay web site, much appreciated. It was a hoot fishing with you guys in March on LOW and Crow Lake. We will do it again next March.....eh?

Really, you should hold it straight out & hide your fingers & arm as much as possible to really fool em'. That's the key to making those bass look big! Vern

It always really bugs me when I see people holding big bass by the lower lip with their bodies suspended out there horizontally. You see it a lot on Bass fishing shows out of the south (not that you don't see it up here too - just more bass shows out of the south I guess).

I really wonder about cartilage and ligament damage to the mouths and heads of those big fish. They were never designed to totally support the entire weight of their bodies using their lip as a springboard.

Albeit, it is an easy way to handle a bass, by lipping them. I just wish more people would hold them vertically while removing the hook, and be a little more careful when releasing them.

Pay close attention to the underwater shots that they show of big bass being released back into the water after being handled that way -they CAN'T CLOSE THEIR MOUTHS!

Same thing goes for big pike and muskies. Don't wrench their spines backwards for a great photo. Hold them slightly uptilted, but keep their backs straight. Imagine what it might feel like if someone held you up by your neck and your ankles with your belly hangin' down. Yoww!

I must confess that, just about 25 years ago, I caught an 11-pound steelhead on Lake Michigan (wouldn't have killed it but it got rolled in the line and all slashed up).

Anyway, we hung it by fishing line from the garage eave, and I backed up 10 feet and positioned my hand like I was holding it up underneath the gill plate. In the pic, the fish's head starts a foot above mine and the tail almost brushes the ground.

Darn near seven feet of steelhead.

Fun is where you find it.

      we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.

      I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.

      reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
