So I picked up a couple of the Cabela's frogs......pretty happy with the quality and fishability of them. Anywho, 2 casts in catch a nice little pike... Well I ended up having to cut my line to thread the bait through his gills. So retied, next cast, Plop.....splish splish, slurp, set.......doh! bait was gone.

Now on to the point being, after this happened I ended up retying with a small shockleader of 50# cajun leader material and didn't get bit off in the next handful of fish. Do any of you use a leader like this when frogging?

Pike vs plastics is never a good thing. They love them and they tend to destroy them. Can't say I've had a problem with pike on frogs, but that may be because of where I use, or because I've never had much luck whatsoever with topwaters.

Something I have noticed though is that rods with a softer tip or slower action tend to get less bite offs from pike.

A frog of any kind will get torn by pike.( but i still use them!) I do fish with the berkley bat wing alot, so not a big loss. I do how ever use a 10-12" flouro leader, that i replaced the snap with a split ring.( it doesn't get hung up near as much in the weeds and slop) If you use the other styles; carry a tube of super glue to patch the cuts. That will extend the life a little more.

I have a dozen spro and scum frogs that are full of holes from them toothy monsters. I have them super glued all over to keep them floating. The pike really mess them up but I have had more than one 20" bass tear the eyelet hole making it slide up and down the line. I tried to use a light leader but the frog sinks a lot quicker and hangs up in the weeds more. I was on the snake river last Friday night and lost 2 of the patched up frogs but the thrill of seeing those 5lb+ pike launch straight out of the water 2-3 feet in the air is cool.

I use mailny spros and have never had to mayn issues with pike. The hit alot harder most of the time so I set them fast and they seem to not get as much of the bait that way. I have lost more frogs to bass so far and usually fish heavy enough stuff with froggs to avoid the pike. I use 65lb braid and never have lost a frog to a fish with 65lb power pro
